Lateral videoradiography was carried out on nine babies, seven with clefts and two without, at rest and while feeding with a barium mixture. No discernible difference was found in tongue movement or position between the cleft and noncleft babies, nor did the presence or absence of a presurgical plate make any difference.

The ACL-deficient dog is a model for investigating the development and progression of mechanically driven osteoarthrosis of the knee. ACL loss creates dynamic instability in the ACL-deficient knee which presumably leads to progressive joint degeneration, but the nature of this instability over the time course of disease development is not well understood. The goal of this study was to characterize three-dimensional motion of the canine knee during gait, before and serially for two years after ACL transection.

Purpose: The videoradiographic examination described was designed for habitual snorers and sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) patients and was performed during wakefulness and sleep. During wakefulness the purpose was to reveal any dysfunction in deglutition and speech as well as morphologic abnormalities. The purpose during sleep, which usually was induced by low-dose midazolam intravenously, was to reveal the site and form of obstruction in obstructive sleep apnea patients and the site of snoring in habitual snorers.

Magnetic resonance imaging can provide additional information and may be characteristic in some conditions. Magnetic resonance imaging is imperative for detailed imaging of disease at the orbital apex, optic canal, or chiasm.

The swallow is not a reflex but rather a programmed response which is only initiated given the right combination of cortical and peripheral sensory cues to the medulla. Interruption of these afferent pathways profoundly influences the ability to initiate a swallow.
