We report the case of a 58-year-old woman who presented with rapidly destructive osteoarthritis (RDO) of the hip that had been causing her severe pain and disability. By the time of presentation to our institution, she had a significant leg length discrepancy resulting from extensive destruction of the posterior acetabular wall, posterior column, and femoral head with a superiorly migrated femoral shaft. She underwent structural acetabular allograft augmentation of the pelvis re-enforced with a locking plate, concomitant total hip replacement with dual mobility implants, and extensive soft tissue releases to restore length to the extremity.

The high content of vitamin E, including tocopherols and tocotrienols (TCF-TTE), in palm oil () has made it a promising candidate for the alternative treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD). However, the limited solubility of TCF-TTE has restricted its therapeutic efficacy. In this study, pluronic-based micelles (MCs) encapsulating palm oil-derived TCF-TTE were formulated with dissolvable microarray patch-micelles (DMP-MC) using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) synthesized from empty fruit bunches of palm to optimize its delivery for AD.

Aim: To investigate additional factors contributing to the pathophysiology of chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis and periodontitis beyond the systemic immune suppression caused by the chemotherapeutic agent 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU).
Methods: 5-Fluorouracil was topically delivered to the non-keratinized, rapidly proliferating junctional epithelium (JE) surrounding the dentition, and acts as an immunologic and functional barrier to bacterial ingression. Various techniques, including EdU incorporation, quantitative immunohistochemistry (qIHC), histology, enzymatic activity assays, and micro-computed tomographic (μCT) imaging, were employed to analyze the JE at multiple time points following topical 5-FU treatment.

In recent years, plasma medicine has developed rapidly as a new interdisciplinary discipline. However, the key mechanisms of interactions between cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) and biological tissue are still in the exploration stage. In this study, by introducing the reactive molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, the capsid protein (CA) molecule of HIV was selected as the model to investigate the reaction process upon impact by reactive oxygen species (ROS) from CAP and protein molecules at the atomic level.

Introduction Diabetes is a rapidly growing global health concern, with the World Health Organization (WHO) estimating that 300 million adults will have diabetes by 2025. This chronic condition is associated with complications, including nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, cardiovascular disease, and diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), which can lead to amputation. Diabetic septic foot (DSF), a severe form of diabetic foot disease, is defined by the WHO as the presence of infection, ulceration, or tissue destruction in the lower limb, often accompanied by neurological abnormalities, peripheral vascular disease, and metabolic complications of diabetes.

Background/objectives: Pathogen inactivation and harmful gene destruction from water just before drinking is the last line of defense to protect people from waterborne diseases. However, commonly used disinfection methods, such as chlorination, ultraviolet irradiation, and membrane filtration, experience several challenges such as continuous chemical dosing, the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), and intensive energy consumption.
Methods: Here, we perform a simultaneous elimination of pathogens and ARGs in drinking water using local electric fields and in-situ generated trace copper ions (LEF-Cu) without external chemical dosing.
