Background: We previously identified hypopharyngeal cancer as an independent risk factor for the incidence of newly diagnosed secondary cancers after the treatment of early-stage laryngeal, oropharyngeal, and hypopharyngeal cancers. We subsequently used a different patient cohort to validate the usefulness of this factor during the follow-up period in these patients.
Methods: Patients who underwent transoral surgery (TOS) as a definitive treatment between April 1, 2016, and September 30, 2020, were included. The incidence of secondary cancer was evaluated in hypopharyngeal and other cancers. Overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and disease-free survival (DFS) outcomes were evaluated. Statistical analyses based on the risk factors were also performed.
Results: Incidence of new secondary cancer was 30% in hypopharyngeal cancer patients as compared to 11% in other cancer patients, and the risk was 3.60-fold (95% confidence interval 1.07-12.10) higher after definitive treatment for initial head and neck cancers. The 3-year OS, RFS, and DFS rates were 98%, 86%, and 67%, respectively.
Conclusions: Among patients with early-stage laryngeal, oropharyngeal, and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, who were initially treated with TOS, hypopharyngeal cancer patients had a higher risk of newly diagnosed secondary cancers as observed during the follow-up period.

Objective: The primary objective of this study is to investigate various applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and statistical methodologies for analyzing and managing peritoneal metastases (PM) caused by gastrointestinal cancers.
Methods: Relevant keywords and search criteria were comprehensively researched on PubMed and Google Scholar to identify articles and reviews related to the topic. The AI approaches considered were conventional machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) models, and the relevant statistical approaches included biostatistics and logistic models.

Drug resistance is an important factor for prostate cancer (PCa) to progress into refractory PCa, and abnormal lipid metabolism usually occurs in refractory PCa, which presents great challenges for PCa therapy. Here, a cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36) inhibitor sulfosuccinimidyl oleate sodium (CD36i) and stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) siRNA (siSCD1) are selected to inhibit lipid uptake and synthesis in PCa, respectively. To this end, a multiresponsive drug delivery nanosystem, HA@CD36i-TR@siSCD1 is designed.

Objectives: The authors sought to assess whether the age of 18 reflects a true pathological inflection point that justifies transitioning between pediatric and adult paradigms of care with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC).
Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted for patients aged 12-24 undergoing hemithyroidectomy or total thyroidectomy for papillary or follicular thyroid carcinoma from 2010 to 2020.
Results: A total of 153 patients receiving surgery for DTC were assessed for pathological stage, nodal metastasis, and thyroid neoplasm characteristics.

BACKGROUND Fibrosing mediastinitis (FM) is a rare, fibroproliferative disorder within the mediastinum. It is extremely rare for hematologic malignancies to develop as FM. CASE REPORT A 32-year-old Japanese man with a 1-month history of headache and 2-week history of facial swelling underwent chest computed tomography (CT); a diffuse mass-like lesion was revealed in the anterior mediastinum with severe stenosis of vital mediastinal organs.

Background: Uterine fibroids (UF) is the most common benign tumour of the female reproductive system. We investigated the joint contribution of genome-wide association studies (GWAS)-significant loci and environment-associated risk factors to the UF risk, along with epistatic interactions between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).
Methods: DNA samples from 737 hospitalised patients with UF and 451 controls were genotyped using probe-based PCR for seven common GWAS SNPs: rs117245733 , rs547025 rs2456181 , rs7907606 , , rs58415480 , rs7986407 , and rs72709458 .
