While action spectroscopy of cold molecular ions is a well-established technique to provide vibrationally resolved absorption features, fluorescence experiments are still challenging. Here we report the fluorescence spectra of pyronin-Y and resorufin ions at 100 K using a newly constructed setup. Spectra narrow upon cooling, and the emission maxima blueshift. Temperature effects are attributed to the population of vibrational excited levels in S, and that frequencies are lower in S than in S. This picture is supported by calculated spectra based on a Franck-Condon model that not only predicts the observed change in maximum, but also assigns Franck-Condon active vibrations. In-plane vibrational modes that preserve the mirror plane present in both S and S of resorufin and pyronin Y account for most of the observed vibrational bands. Finally, at low temperatures, it is important to pick an excitation wavelength as far to the red as possible to not reheat the ions.

The Doktorov's quantum algorithm has been enacted in combination with time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) to simulate the vibronic structure of the UV/visible absorption spectra of the phenol and phenolate molecules. On the one hand, DFT and TD-DFT are employed with classical algorithms to calculate the ground and excited-state electronic structures as well as their vibrational frequencies and normal modes, whereas, on the other hand, quantum algorithms are employed for evaluating the vibrational transition intensities. In comparison to a previous study, , 128, 4369-4377, which demonstrated Doktorov's quantum algorithm as a proof of concept to predict the vibronic structure of ionization spectra, it is applied here to medium-size molecules with more than 30 vibrational normal modes, without accounting for Duschinsky rotations due to software limitations.

Structurally knowing the active sites of a drug is important for understanding its therapeutic functions. S086 is a novel angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor that consists of the molecular moieties of EXP3174 (the active metabolite of the angiotensin receptor blocker losartan) and sacubitril (a neprilysin inhibitor prodrug) in a 1:1 molar ratio. There are two forms of cocrystals of S086, namely, ξ-crystal and α-crystal, which were formed both via intermolecular coordination bonding to calcium ions, with the aid of internal water.

Most molecules and dielectric materials have characteristic bond vibrations or phonon modes in the mid-infrared regime. However, infrared absorption spectroscopy lacks the sensitivity for detecting trace analytes due to the low quantum efficiency of infrared sensors.
