Masting, the synchronous, highly variable flowering across years by a population of perennial plants, has been reported to be precipitated by various factors including nitrogen levels, drought conditions, and spring and summer temperatures. However, the molecular mechanism leading to the initiation of flowering in masting plants in particular years remains largely unknown, despite the potential impact of climate change on masting phenology. We studied genes controlling flowering in the alpine snow tussock Chionochloa pallens (Poaceae), a strongly masting perennial grass. We used a range of in situ and manipulated plants to obtain leaf samples from tillers (shoots) which subsequently remained vegetative or flowered. Here, we show that a novel orthologue of TERMINAL FLOWER 1 (TFL1; normally a repressor of flowering in other species) promotes the induction of flowering in C. pallens (hence Anti-TFL1), a conclusion supported by structural, functional and expression analyses. Global transcriptomic analysis indicated differential expression of CpTPS1, CpGA20ox1, CpREF6 and CpHDA6, emphasizing the role of endogenous cues and epigenetic regulation in terms of responsiveness of plants to initiate flowering. Our molecular-based study provides insights into the cellular mechanism of flowering in masting plants and will supplement ecological and statistical models to predict how masting will respond to global climate change.

2-methylguanosine is an eukaryote-specific modified nucleoside in transfer RNAs, and mG10 is catalyzed by Trm11-Trm112 protein complex in eukaryotic tRNAs. Here, we show that loss-of-function mutation of the Arabidopsis Trm11 homolog AtTRM11 resulted in mG deficiency associated with disturbed ribosome assembly and overall transcriptome changes, including genes involved in flowering regulation and plant-pathogen interaction. The attrm11 mutant showed phenotypes of enlarged rosette leaves and early flowering, as well as enhanced resistance to Pseudomonas bacterial infection.

Background: Early-maturity cotton varieties have the potential to be cultivated in a wider geographical area, extending as far north as 46 °N in China, and confer to address the issue of competition for land between grain and cotton by reducing their whole growth period (WGP). Therefore, it is of great importance to develop cotton varieties with comprehensive early maturity and high yield following investigating the regulatory mechanism underlying early maturity and identifying early maturity-related genes.
Results: In this study, 'SCRC19' and 'SCRC21', two excellent cultivars with significantly different WGP, along with their recombinant inbred lines (RILs) consisting of 150 individuals were re-sequenced, yielding 4,092,677 high-quality single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and 794 bin markers across 26 chromosomes.

The aim of this study was to explore whether and how diverse categories of nature-related landscape images would influence the emotional dimensions of pleasure, arousal and dominance in the process of aesthetic appreciation, as well as to develop a new nature-related image system (NIS). A total of 575 high-quality images across six categories were selected and assessed by 197 students from the dimensions of aesthetic feeling (AF), pleasure, arousal and dominance. The results showed that different categories evoked varying levels of each dimension, and the impact of landscape categories on emotional experiences cannot be overlooked.
