Article Abstract

Nowadays, to mitigate the global warming problem, the requirement of carbon neutrality has become more urgent. Oxy-fuel combustion (OFC) has been proposed as a promising way of carbon capture and storage (CCS) to eliminate carbon dioxide (CO) emissions. This article explores the implementation of OFC technology in a practical gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine fueled with gasoline-ethanol blends, including E0 (gasoline), E25 (25% ethanol, 75% is gasoline in mass fraction), and E50 (50% ethanol, 50% is gasoline in mass fraction). The results show that with a fixed spark timing, φ (where 50% fuel is burned), of E50 and E25 is about 4.5 and 1.9° later than that of E0, respectively. Ignition delay (θ) and combustion duration (θ) can be extended with the increase of the ethanol fraction in the blended fuel. With the increase of the oxygen mass fraction (OMF) from 23.3 to 29%, equivalent brake-specific fuel consumption (BSFC) has a benefit of 2.12, 1.65, and 1.51% for E0, E25, and E50, respectively. The corresponding increase in brake-specific oxygen consumption (BSOC) is 21.83, 22.42, and 22.58%, respectively. Meanwhile, θ, θ, and the heat release rate (HRR) are not strongly affected by the OMF. With the increase of the OMF, the increment of θ is 0.7, 1.8, and 2.2° for E0, E25, and E50, respectively. θ is only extended by 1, 1.1, and 1.4°, respectively. Besides, by increasing the intake temperature ( ) from 298 to 358 K under all of the fuel conditions, BSFC and BSOC present slight growth trends; θ and θ are slightly reduced; in the meantime, φ, φ (crank angle of peak cylinder pressure), and the position of the HRR peak are advanced by nearly 1°.

The acute response to therapeutic afterload reduction differs between heart failure with preserved (HFpEF) versus reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), with larger left ventricular (LV) stroke work augmentation in HFrEF compared to HFpEF. This may (partially) explain the neutral effect of HFrEF-medication in HFpEF. It is unclear whether such differences in hemodynamic response persist and/or differentially trigger reverse remodeling in case of long-term afterload reduction.

Recent developments in mass spectrometry-based proteomics have established it as a robust tool for system-wide analyses essential for pathophysiological research. While post-mortem samples are a critical source for these studies, our understanding of how body decomposition influences the proteome remains limited. Here, we have revisited published data and conducted a clinically relevant time-course experiment in mice, revealing organ-specific proteome regulation after death, with only a fraction of these changes linked to protein autolysis.

Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Diagnostic Sciences, Faculty of Dentistry, Taif University, 21944, Taif, Saudi Arabia.

This study investigates the use of machine learning models to predict solubility of rivaroxaban in binary solvents based on temperature (T), mass fraction (w), and solvent type. Using a dataset with over 250 data points and including solvents encoded with one-hot encoding, four models were compared: Gradient Boosting (GB), Light Gradient Boosting (LGB), Extra Trees (ET), and Random Forest (RF). The Jellyfish Optimizer (JO) algorithm was applied to tune hyperparameters, enhancing model performance.

The increased use of dairy fat in various applications is facilitated by its fractionation into hard and liquid fractions. Herein, the fractionation of bovine ghee and buffalo ghee was investigated, and triacylglycerol (TAG) profiles of milk fat fractions and 2 categories of infant formulas fat were quantified by using ultra-performance convergence chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPC-Q-TOF-MS) using carbon dioxide as the mobile phase. Furthermore, the thermal behavior of the different samples was evaluated, and tocopherols content was also quantified.

The inherent heterogeneity, poor compatibility with polymers, and dark color of lignin limit its application in composites. In this study, original lignin (OL) was fractionated sequentially using four green organic solvents to obtain lignin fractions with different chemical structures. These well-defined lignin fractions were then blended with polybutylene succinate (PBS) to fabricate biocomposites.
