Background: The impact of infraclavicular versus supraclavicular nerve block on the analgesia for upper limb surgeries is unclear. This meta-analysis and systematic review aims to study the analgesic efficacy of infraclavicular versus supraclavicular nerve block for upper limb surgeries.

Methods: We searched several databases including PubMed, EMbase, Web of science, EBSCO and Cochrane library databases from inception to December 2023, and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effect of infraclavicular versus supraclavicular nerve block for upper limb surgeries were included.

Article Synopsis
  • Ado-trastuzumab emtansine (T-DM1) is a targeted therapy for HER2-positive breast cancer, commonly causing side effects like fatigue, diarrhea, and thrombocytopenia.
  • A 54-year-old woman treated for metastatic breast cancer developed drug-induced lupus after 18 months on T-DM1, which improved upon stopping the drug and starting hydroxychloroquine.
  • This case is notable as it documents the first reported instance of drug-induced lupus specifically linked to T-DM1 therapy.

November 2024

Department of Radiation Oncology, Sheba Medical Center, Ramat Gan, Israel; School of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel; GROW-School for Oncology and Developmental Biology or GROW (Maastro), Maastricht University, Maastricht, The Netherlands. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares dosimetry of three radiation therapy techniques for targeting internal mammary and supraclavicular nodes in breast cancer treatment, as part of the EORTC 22922/10925 trial.
  • A retrospective analysis of ten randomly selected left-sided breast cases was conducted, assessing plans according to trial protocols, where doses to planning target volumes and organs at risk were measured.
  • Results showed that while all techniques adequately dosed the breast and supraclavicular regions, the individualized plan had lower internal mammary coverage, but reduced heart exposure compared to standard techniques, suggesting benefits in treatment planning for breast cancer outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Variation exists in diagnosing and treating neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome (NTOS), causing challenges in standardizing outcomes and practices among hand surgeons.
  • An international group of expert hand surgeons reached a consensus on guidelines for diagnosing and managing NTOS using the Delphi method, confirming 17 key statements.
  • Recommendations include a specific diagnostic approach, prioritizing conservative management, routine preoperative imaging, and surgical techniques for effective NTOS treatment.*

A modified supraclavicular artery island flap for reconstruction of oral and maxillofacial defects.

Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol Oral Radiol

October 2024

Department of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Zhujiang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Objective: To overcome the limitation of the supraclavicular artery island flap (SCAIF), we describe a modified SCAIF which incorporates a portion of the upper trapezius and the superficial branch of the transverse cervical artery (TCA) for the reconstruction of oral and maxillofacial defects.

Study Design: The modified SCAIF was used on 20 patients at our hospital between April 2013 and August 2022. All patients underwent resection of the primary lesion site and immediate reconstruction with the modified SCAIF.
