Herein, we report a computational model for the morphological evolution of bimetallic nanostructures in a thermal dewetting process, with a phase-field framework and superior optical, physical, and chemical properties compared to those of conventional nanostructures. The quantitative analysis of the simulation results revealed nano-cap, nano-ring, and nano-island equilibrium morphologies of the deposited material in thermal dewetting, and the morphologies depended on the gap between the spherical patterns on the substrate, size of the substrate, and deposition thickness. We studied the variations in the equilibrium morphologies of the nanostructures with the changes in the shape of the substrate pattern and the thickness of the deposited material. The method described herein can be used to control the properties of bimetallic nanostructures by altering their equilibrium morphologies using thermal dewetting.

The main objective of this work is to study the mathematical model that combines stem cell therapy and chemotherapy for cancer cells. We study the model using the fractal fractional derivative with the Mittag-Leffler kernel. In the analytical part, we study the existence of the solution and its uniqueness, which was studied based on the fixed point theory.

Preparation and Performance Research of Pb(II)-Imprinted Acrylonitrile-Co-Acrylic Acid Composite Material with Modified Sand Particles as Carrier.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Fine Chemicals of Ministry of Education, School of Chemical Engineering, Xinjiang University, Urumqi 830017, China.

Lead (Pb) is classified as a prevalent metallic pollutant, significantly impacting the ecological environment, especially human health. Consequently, it is crucial to develop adsorbent materials that are environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and which possess high selectivity. This study aims to fabricate a Pb(II)-imprinted acrylonitrile-co-acrylic acid composite material by using modified sand particles as the carrier, and then to investigate its properties.

Graphene's incorporation into polymers has enabled the development of advanced polymer/graphene nanocomposites with superior properties. This study focuses on the use of a microcellular foamed polystyrene (PS)/graphene (GP) nanocomposite (3 wt%) for nickel (II) ion removal from aqueous solutions. Adsorption behavior was evaluated through FTIR, TEM, SEM, TGA, and XRD analyses.

Dysregulation of Mitochondrial Homeostasis in Cardiovascular Diseases.

Pharmaceuticals (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Cardiac Surgery, Michigan Medicine, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 48109, USA.

Mitochondria dysfunction plays a central role in the development of vascular diseases as oxidative stress promotes alterations in mitochondrial morphology and function that contribute to disease progression. Redox imbalances can affect normal cellular processes including mitochondrial biogenesis, electrochemical equilibrium, and the regulation of mitochondrial DNA. In this review, we will discuss these imbalances and, in particular, the potential role of mitochondrial fusion, fission, biogenesis, and mitophagy in the context of vascular diseases and how the dysregulation of normal function might contribute to disease progression.

We incorporated Espaloma forcefield parameterization into MoSDeF tools for performing molecular dynamics simulations of organic molecules with HOOMD-Blue. We compared equilibrium morphologies predicted for perylene and poly-3-hexylthiophene (P3HT) with the ESP-UA forcefield in the present work against prior work using the OPLS-UA forcefield. We found that, after resolving the chemical ambiguities in molecular topologies, ESP-UA is similar to GAFF.
