Objective: To analyze the effect of applying alternative diagnostic criteria for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) during the COVID-19 pandemic on GDM prevalence and obstetrical and perinatal outcomes, in comparison to usual diagnostic approaches.

Methods: Data from women referred to GDM diagnosis from 1 September to 30 November 2019 were retrospectively collected (2019-group). The same data from the same period in 2020 were prospectively collected (2020-group). In both cases, a two-step diagnostic approach was used, the first step being a screening test (1 h 50 goral glucose tolerance test, OGTT). In 2019 it was followed by a 100 gr OGTT for diagnosis. In 2020, this was replaced by a blood test for the measurement of plasma glucose and HbA1c, according to alternative GDM diagnostic criteria during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Results: From 237 women in the 2019 group, 40 (16.9%) were diagnosed with GDM, while from 255 women in the 2020 group, 37 (14.5%) had GDM ( = 0.470). More women in the 2020 group, in comparison to the 2019 group, were nulligravid (41.9% vs. 47.2%, = 0.013), had a personal history of GDM (11.4% vs. 4.6%, = 0.013) and had macrosomia in previous pregnancies (10.2% vs. 2.1%, = 0.001). Obstetrical and perinatal outcomes were similar when comparing women with GDM to non-GDM women in the 2019 and 2020 groups and between GDM women and non-GDM women.

Conclusion: In a Spanish population, GDM prevalence during the COVID-19 pandemic using the alternative diagnostic criteria was similar to that found in 2019 using the usual diagnostic criteria. Despite women referred for GDM diagnosis during the pandemic having more GDM risk factors, obstetrical and perinatal outcomes were comparable to those observed before the pandemic.

To evaluate the accuracy of home self-monitoring portable blood glucose meters, we analyzed the current problems of patients using portable blood glucose meters and put forward reasonable suggestions. A self-designed questionnaire was used to survey 142 patients and 132 healthcare professionals. The questionnaire consisted of 16 items with an overall score ranging from 1 to 13 (with a higher score indicating better experience).

Background: This study investigates the therapeutic efficacy of dynamic neuromuscular stabilization (DNS) technology paired with Kinesio Taping in patients with persistent nonspecific low back pain, as well as the effect on neuromuscular function and pain self-efficacy.

Methods: A randomized controlled clinical study was conducted to collect clinical data on DNS combined with KT for the treatment of chronic nonspecific low back pain from November 2023 to April 2024. The inclusion criteria were patients with chronic nonspecific lower back pain, aged between 18 and 30 years old, and without serious underlying medical conditions, such as cardiac disease, hypertension, and diabetes.

Background: The performance of quantitative pupillary light reflex (qPLR) and the neurological pupil index (NPi) was used to predict neurological outcomes in cardiac arrest (CA) patients.

Methods: Eligible studies on the ability of the qPLR and NPi to predict neurological outcomes in CA patients were searched from the PubMed and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases until July 2023. The pooled odds ratio (OR) and its 95% confidence interval (95% CI), area under the curve, sensitivity analysis, and publication bias were analyzed via Stata 14.

Objective: The current neurosurgical treatment for intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) of prematurity resulting in posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH) seeks to reduce intracranial pressure with temporary and then permanent CSF diversion. In contrast, neuroendoscopic lavage (NEL) directly addresses the intraventricular blood that is hypothesized to damage the ependyma and parenchyma, leading to ventricular dilation and hydrocephalus. The authors sought to determine the feasibility of NEL in PHH.

Background: The aim is to develop age-specific anti-Müllerian hormone screening criteria for polycystic ovary syndrome to facilitate the early detection and diagnosis of the condition, and to subsequently evaluate the screening criteria.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on patient data from Hangzhou Women's Hospital between July 2021 and August 2024. The use of restricted cubic spline analysis helped identify age-related inflection points, which were crucial for segmenting the patient population.
