One new hopane-type triterpene, indicuen (), along with eight known compounds () were isolated from the -hexane extract of the lichen Hale. The chemical structures of isolated compounds were identified by interpretation of their spectroscopic data (1D, 2D NMR and HRESIMS) combined with DFT-NMR chemical shift calculations and subsequent assignment of DP4+ probabilities and by comparison with the literature. Indicuen represents for a rare hopane bearing a 1-carboxyethyl substituent at C-21 in lichens. Compounds and - were evaluated for -glucosidase inhibition and cytotoxicity against K562 and HepG2 cancer cell lines. Compounds , and exhibited moderate -glucosidase inhibition with IC values of 201.1, 156.3 and 187.4 µM, respectively. Compound also showed weak cytotoxicity toward K562 cell line while others showed no activity.

Green algae, particularly species, are rich in complex polysaccharides, such as ulvan, which have significant potential for biotechnological applications. However, the biochemical properties of ulvan depolymerised products remain underexplored. The enzymatic depolymerisation of ulvan has garnered attention owing to its cost advantages over alternative methods.

Diabetes mellitus is a rising global health issue, necessitating effective and affordable treatments. This study aimed to develop marker-based quantification methods for using a DoE approach and conduct anti-diabetic screening of its phytoconstituents. Methanolic extracts of the plant underwent fractionation, with the chloroform fraction used for simultaneous HPLC quantification of Plumbagin and Juglone.

Different parts of have been used widely in traditional medicine to treat many disorders. The present study aims to evaluate the antidiabetic ability of the corm, pseudostem, inflorescence, fruit, peel, and seed of via in vitro experiments by inhibiting α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes as well as in vivo models on diabetic alloxan-induced mice.

Advance glycation end products (AGEs) are the main reason for diabetic complications. Persistent hyperglycemia and non-enzymatic glycation increase the rate of AGEs formation. Natural functional food-based approaches are mainly under investigation these days to discover new treatment options.

β-Glucosidase plays a pivotal role in transforming ginsenosides into specific minor ginsenosides. In this study, total ginsenosides from Panax notoginseng leaves were used as substrates to stimulate the growth of Aspergillus niger NG1306. Transcriptome analysis identified a β-glucosidase gene, Anglu04478 (1455 bp, 484 amino acids, 54.
