A greenhouse experiment aimed to assess the effects of poultry manure, sorghum, and clover residues (0 and 15 g kg) on the zinc (Zn) bioavailable fraction in contaminated calcareous soil using two chemical assays, including diffusion gradient in thin-films (DGT) and diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid-triethanolamine (DTPA-TEA), and a bioassay with corn (Zea mase L.). The results showed that poultry manure, clover, and sorghum residues application increased dissolved organic carbon (DOC) by 53.6 and 36.1, and 9.2%, respectively, and decreased soil pH by 0.42, 0.26, and 0.06 units, respectively compared to unamended soil. These changes resulted in increases of Zn effective concentration (C) and DTPA-Zn, and plant Zn concentration as observed by the increase in exchangeable form of Zn. In the sorghum residues-amended soils, C-Zn decreased by 29.5% compared to other treatments. The best correlations between corn metal concentrations and soil metal bioavailability were obtained for C-Zn using the DGT technique, which also provided the best Zn bioavailability estimate. It is concluded that sorghum residues could be used to reduce the phytotoxicity risk of Zn in calcareous contaminated soil, and the DTPA method is the less robust indicator of Zn bioavailability than the DGT technique.

The Silway River has historically failed to meet safe fecal coliform levels due to improper waste disposal. The river mouth is located in General Santos City, the tuna capital of the Philippines and a leading producer of hogs, cattle, and poultry. The buildup of contaminants due to direct discharge of waste from chicken farms and existing water quality conditions has led to higher fecal matter in the Silway River.

[Sorption and Transport of Antibiotics in Manured Upland Agricultural Soils].

State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Silviculture, College of Forestry and Biotechnology, Zhejiang A&F University, Hangzhou 311300, China.

Sorption and transport are important environmental behaviors of antibiotics in soils and can determine the fate of antibiotics in environments; however, limited relevant studies have been conducted on long-term manured soils. In this study, batch and repacked soil column experiments were conducted to examine the sorption and transport behavior of four veterinary antibiotics, including sulfamethazine (SMT), florfenicol (FFC), doxycycline (DOX), and enrofloxacin (ENR), in red soils, yellow soils, and calcareous soils with long-term amendment of chicken or pig manure collected in Zhejiang Province. The results showed that the sorption isothermal data of the four target antibiotics all conformed well to the linear and Freundlich models.

The construction of "zero-free cities" is an effective plan to achieve the carbon peak plan, reduce pollution and carbon emissions, and promote a circular economy. Based on the WARM model and Emission factor method, the total carbon emission reduction of solid waste sources and disposal in each field during the implementation of the zero-free city policy in Chongqing (2017-2021) was calculated, and the total carbon emission reduction of solid waste in each field in 2025 was predicted by scenario. The results showed that: ① After the implementation of cleaner production and green manufacturing policies in Chongqing, the generation intensity of general industrial solid waste decreased to 0.

Continuous, non-invasive, and objective methods to detect flock-level responses to stressors, including intestinal health deviations, are currently lacking in poultry. This proof of principle study investigated the potential of manure odor profiling in monitoring stress responses in Lohmann Brown Classic, Lohmann LSL Classic and Lohmann LSL Lite layer pullets. Stressors were represented by a Salmonella vaccination given to the pullets at wk 3 of age (Dataset 1 and Dataset 2) and wk 16 of age (Dataset 4) and a viral/bacterial vaccine cocktail given at wk 12 of age (Dataset 3).

The prevalence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in agricultural soils has garnered significant attention. However, the long-term impacts of various nitroge (N)-substitution fertilization regimes on the distribution of soil ARGs and their dominant drivers in a subtropical triple-cropping system remain largely unexplored. This study employed a metagenomic approach to analyze soil ARGs, microbial communities, mobile genetic elements (MGEs), and viruses from a maize-maize-cabbage rotation field experiment with five different fertilization regimes.
