Invasive feral swine () are one of the most important wildlife species for disease surveillance in the United States, serving as a reservoir for various diseases of concern for the health of humans and domestic animals. , the causative agent of swine brucellosis, is one such pathogen carried and transmitted by feral swine. Serology assays are the preferred field diagnostic for infection, as whole blood can be readily collected and antibodies are highly stable.

Specific anatomical characteristics make the porcine species especially sensitive to extreme temperature changes, predisposing them to pathologies and even death due to thermal stress. Interest in improving animal welfare and porcine productivity has led to the development of various lines of research that seek to understand the effect of certain environmental conditions on productivity and the impact of implementing strategies designed to mitigate adverse effects. The non-invasive infrared thermography technique is one of the tools most widely used to carry out these studies, based on detecting changes in microcirculation.

Recognizing rice seedling growth stages to timely do field operations, such as temperature control, fertilizer, irrigation, cultivation, and disease control, is of great significance of crop management, provision of standard and well-nourished seedlings for mechanical transplanting, and increase of yield. Conventionally, rice seedling growth stage is performed manually by means of visual inspection, which is not only labor-intensive and time-consuming, but also subjective and inefficient on a large-scale field. The application of machine learning algorithms on UAV images offers a high-throughput and non-invasive alternative to manual observations and its applications in agriculture and high-throughput phenotyping are increasing.

Invasive consumers can cause extensive ecological damage to native communities but effects on ecosystem resilience are less understood. Here, we use drone surveys, manipulative experiments, and mathematical models to show how feral hogs reduce resilience in southeastern US salt marshes by dismantling an essential marsh cordgrass-ribbed mussel mutualism. Mussels usually double plant growth and enhance marsh resilience to extreme drought but, when hogs invade, switch from being essential for plant survival to a liability; hogs selectively forage in mussel-rich areas leading to a 50% reduction in plant biomass and slower post-drought recovery rate.
