Freshwater mussels are used as an effective bioindicator of metal pollution. There is no data on the accumulation of any metal-oxide nanoparticles (NPs) in tissues of Unio tigridis. Thus, this study was undertaken to investigate accumulation of AlO, CuO, and TiO NPs following exposure to different concentrations (0, 1, 3, and 9 mg/L) of NPs for 14 days. Metal concentrations in tissues were determined by ICP-MS, while NP presence was demonstrated by transmission electron microscope (TEM) images. During the experiments, mussels were fed with cultured algae (Chlorella vulgaris). TEM images demonstrated the presence of NPs in digestive gland and muscle. TEM images also suggested that NPs were taken via the lysosomes or endosomes. Highest mean concentrations (µg/g d.w.) of aluminium (76.51), copper (111.63) and titanium (113.83) occurred in the gills and followed by the digestive glands and muscles. Algae consumption of mussels did not significantly differ among controls and NP-exposed groups.

Bacteriophage infections in bacterial cultures pose a significant challenge to industrial bioprocesses, necessitating the development of innovative antiphage solutions. This study explores the antiphage potential of indigo carmine (IC), a common FDA-approved food additive. IC demonstrated selective inactivation of DNA phages (P001, T4, T1, T7, λ) with the EC values ranging from 0.

Six novel phages belonging to the family were isolated using as a host. Phages MuffinTheCat, Badulia, DesireeRose, Bee17, SCoupsA, and LuzDeMundo were purified from environmental samples by students participating in the Science Education Alliance Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program at Alliance University, New York. The phages have linear dsDNA genomes 15,438-15,636 bp with 112-120 bp inverted terminal repeats.

Acute liver injury (ALI) is a prevalent and potentially lethal condition globally, where pharmacotherapy plays a vital role. However, challenges such as rapid drug excretion and insufficient concentration at hepatic lesions often impede the treatment's effectiveness. We successfully prepared glycyrrhizinate monoammonium cysteine (GMC)-loaded lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) using high-pressure homogenization.

This study investigates the structural and biophysical properties of the wild-type antimicrobial peptide LyeTx I, isolated from the venom of the spider , and its analog LyeTx I-b, designed to enhance antibacterial activity, selectivity, and membrane interactions by the acetylation and increased amphipathicty. : To understand the mechanisms behind these enhanced properties, comparative analyses of the structural, topological, biophysical, and thermodynamic aspects of the interactions between each peptide and phospholipid bilayers were evaluated. Both peptides were isotopically labeled with H-Ala and N-Leu to facilitate structural studies via NMR spectroscopy.

The development of natural molecule-derived carbon nano dots (CNDs) marks a significant advancement in biocompatible and sustainable nanomaterials. Tryptophan, capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB), serves as a precursor to numerous pharmacologically active compounds, while isatin and its derivatives have demonstrated anti-tumor effects, including against brain cancers. This study aimed to synthesize fluorescent CNDs from tryptophan-isatin hybrid precursor and explore their applications in glioblastoma treatment.
