We measure the response of open-cell polyurethane foams filled with a dense suspension of fumed silica particles in polyethylene glycol at compression speeds spanning several orders of magnitude. The gradual compressive stress increase of the composite material indicates the existence of shear rate gradients in the interstitial suspension caused by wide distributions in pore sizes in the disordered foam network. The energy dissipated during compression scales with an effective internal shear rate, allowing for the collapse of three data sets for different pore-size foams.

Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dentoskeletal and soft tissue effects resulting from treatment with Klammt's elastic open activator (EOA) functional orthopedic appliance in patients with Class II malocclusion characterized by mandibular deficiency.

Materials And Methods: Teleradiographs were evaluated in the lateral aspect of the initial (T1) and final (T2) orthopedic phases for 16 patients with Class II, Division 1 malocclusion. The age range was from 9 to 11.

Introduction: Interceptive treatment of Class II, Division 1 malocclusion is a challenge orthodontists commonly face due to the different growth patterns they come across and the different treatment strategies they have available.

Objective: To report five cases of interceptive orthodontics performed with the aid of Klammt's elastic open activator (KEOA) to treat Class II, Division 1 malocclusion.

Methods: Treatment comprehends one or two phases; and the use of functional orthopedic appliances, whenever properly recommended, is able to minimize dentoskeletal discrepancies with consequent improvement in facial esthetics during the first stage of mixed dentition.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the orthodontic and orthopaedic real effects of the Klammt's Elastic Open Activator (EOA) in 25 Class II Division 1 patients in growing period. We wanted to determine statistically the cephalometrics changes produced in the patients, comparing the lateral cranium teleradiographies we took for the diagnosis with the ones we took at the end of treatment. At the end of this study we confirm that by using the EOA we obtained the desired effects, especially reducing the molar relation 2.

Patients' acceptance of an orthodontic appliance may influence compliance and thus contribute to a successful outcome of treatment. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of shape and design of different types of functional appliances on their acceptance by patients. For each of 10 adult volunteer subjects employed in the study eight different functional appliances were fabricated which had a varying extension of the resin base and amount of interocclusal opening.
