Rapid diagnosis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks is critical as endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery gains global prominence. Current clinical methods such as endoscopic examination with and without intrathecal injection of fluorescent dye are invasive and rely on subjective judgment by physicians, highlighting the clinical need for label-free point-of-care (POC). However, a viable solution remains undeveloped due to the molecular complexity of CSF rhinorrhea mixed with nasal discharge and the scarcity of specific biomarkers, delaying sensor development.

Light alcohol consumption (LAC) may reduce the incidence and improve the prognosis of ischemic stroke. Recently, we found that LAC promotes cerebral angiogenesis and inhibits early inflammation following ischemic stroke. In addition, LAC upregulates lipocalin-type prostaglandin D2 synthase (L-PGDS) in the brain.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its development into nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) are challenging health concerns globally. Clinically, the prevalence and severity of NAFLD/NASH are higher in men than in premenopausal women. NAFLD is strongly correlated with obesity, both of which are tied to high-fat/fructose-rich western diets.

Brain injuries, such as ischemic stroke, cause cell death. Although phagocytosis of cellular debris is mainly performed by microglia/macrophages (MGs/MΦs), excessive accumulation beyond their phagocytic capacities results in waste product buildup, delaying brain cell regeneration. Therefore, it is essential to increase the potential for waste product removal from damaged brains.
