High stress levels among hospital workers could be harmful to both workers and the institution. Enabling the workers to monitor their stress level has many advantages. Knowing their own stress level can help them to stay aware and feel more in control of their response to situations and know when it is time to relax or take some actions to treat it properly. This monitoring task can be enabled by using wearable devices to measure physiological responses related to stress. In this work, we propose a smartwatch sensors based continuous stress detection method using some individual classifiers and classifier ensembles. The experiment results show that all of the classifiers work quite well to detect stress with an accuracy of more than 70%. The results also show that the ensemble method obtained higher accuracy and F1-measure compared to all of the individual classifiers. The best accuracy was obtained by the ensemble with soft voting strategy (ES) with 87.10% while the hard voting strategy (EH) achieved the best F1-measure with 77.45%.

Intravascular hemolysis releases hemoglobin (Hb) from red blood cells under specific conditions, yet the effect of hemolysis in aquaculture systems remain poorly understood. In this study, a continuous hemolysis model for grass carp was established by injection of phenylhydrazine (PHZ) to investigate the mechanistic impacts of sustained hemolysis. PHZ-induced hemolysis altered liver color, and subsequent hematoxylin and eosin staining revealed substantial Hb accumulation in the head kidney, accompanied by inflammatory cell infiltration and vacuolization in liver tissue.

Background: The goal of this study was to examine autonomic nervous system function by measuring heart rate (HR), heart rate variability (HRV), skin conductance levels (SCL), and peripheral skin temperature (ST) in response to and during recovery from psychosocial stressors in patients with functional somatic syndromes (FSS; fibromyalgia and/or chronic fatigue syndrome), stress-related syndromes (SRS; overstrain or burn-out), and healthy controls (HC).

Methods: Patients with FSS (n = 26), patients with SRS (n = 59), and HC (n = 30) went through a standardized psychosocial stress test consisting of a resting phase (120 s), the STROOP color word task (120 s), a mental arithmetic task (120 s) and a stress talk (120 s), each followed by a 120 s recovery period. HR, HRV, SCL, and ST were monitored continuously.

Electronic address:

For commercial laying hens, the continuous high-intensity ovulation process leads to a significant accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the granulosa cells, inducing oxidative stress, which accelerates ovarian aging and shortens the peak laying period. The molecular mechanisms underlying this process remain poorly understood. Therefore, we modeled the processes of oxidative stress and antioxidant in chicken granulosa cells.

Serum Cortisol and Cardiovascular Disease Risk-A Potential Biomarker.

Curr Cardiol Rev

January 2025

Division of Applied Biomedical Science and Biotechnology, School of Health Sciences, IMU University, 126, Jalan Jalil Perkasa 19, Bukit Jalil, 57000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Cardiovascular Disease [CVD], the leading cause of death globally, poses a significant burden on the healthcare sector. Its association with stress and Cushing's Syndrome has driven cortisol, the 'stress hormone,' to be a potential candidate in determining CVD risk. Cortisol synthesis and release through the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal [HPA] axis are regulated by several hormones and receptors involved in the pathological cascade towards CVD.

Aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active fluorescent hydrogel materials have found extensive applications in soft robotics, wearable electronics, information encryption, and biomedicine. Nevertheless, it continues to be difficult to create hydrogels that are both highly luminescent and possess strong mechanical capabilities. This study introduces a combined approach of prestretching and solvent exchange to create anisotropic luminous hydrogels made of poly(methacrylic acid-methacrylamide).
