Modelling and monitoring social network change based on exponential random graph models.

J Appl Stat

July 2023

School of Statistics and Data Science, LPMC, LEBPS and KLMDASR, Nankai University, Tianjin, People's Republic of China.

This paper aims to detect anomalous changes in social network structure in real time and to offer early warnings by phase II monitoring social networks. First, the exponential random graph model is used to model social networks. Then, a test and online monitoring technique of the exponential random graph model is developed based on the split likelihood-ratio test after determining the model and its parameters for a specific data set.

Population Genomics of the Critically Endangered Brazilian Merganser.

Animals (Basel)

December 2023

Department of Genetics, Ecology and Evolution, Instituto de Ciências Biológicas, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte 31270-901, MG, Brazil.

Article Synopsis
  • The Brazilian merganser is a critically endangered bird species with fewer than 250 mature individuals left in the wild, primarily located in pristine freshwater habitats in Brazil.
  • Extensive genetic research shows low genetic diversity and high inbreeding due to recent population declines linked to habitat loss.
  • Urgent conservation efforts are needed, including careful genetic monitoring, to enhance management strategies and ensure the long-term survival of the species in its natural environment.

Purpose: Closed spina bifida (CSB) is rare in prenatal literature, and various lesions are grouped under this broad nosological entity CSB, leading to confusing and misleading prognostic conclusions.

Methods: This is a retrospective observational cohort study of prenatally detected CSB cases using two-dimensional ultrasound, complemented by three-dimensional ultrasonography and foetal MRI in indicated cases, from October 2014 to October 2021 in a tertiary-level single centre.

Results: The most common upper vertebral level of CSB was lumbar in 66.
