Unlabelled: Purpose - to investigate functional and morphological effects of peptide bioregulator (Retinalamin) in modeling of photochemical damage to rabbit retina.
Material And Methods: The study was conducted on 36 rabbits (72 eyes) randomized into 4 equal groups: two experimental groups received parabulbar injections of Retinalamin («Geropharm», Russia) in each eye in dosages of 0.25 mg/kg in a course of 10 days starting from day 1 and day 10 of the experiment, respectively, and two control groups that received injections of normal solution with the same regimen. To simulate photochemical damage to the retina, exposure to light with a wavelength of 405 nm, a power density of 5 mW/cm and daily exposure time of 4 h was performed for 20 days. Multifocal and flicker 30 Hz electroretinogram (mfERG and fERG) were recorded, and histological studies of retina samples with quantitative assessment of retinal cells apoptosis by the TUNEL method were conducted before, as well as 10, 20 and 30 days after the start of light exposure.
Results: Ophthalmoscopic signs of light-induced retinal degeneration were revealed 6-10 days after start of exposure in all groups. When registering mfERG and fERG in all groups, there was a significant decrease in the amplitude of N1 and P1 peaks, retinal density of the bioelectric response of the P1 component, as well as the amplitude of fERG on days 10 and 20 after the beginning of light exposure (<0.001 in comparison with the background values), and a slight increase in the indicators on day 30. Histological examination revealed a significant decrease in the number of cells in the outer nuclear layer and an increase in the proportion of apoptotic cells in the outer and inner nuclear layers on days 10 and 20 of the experiment, with a decrease on day 30 (after cessation of light exposure). Comparison of the groups receiving Retinalamin injections from days 1 or 10 of light exposure between themselves and the control groups revealed no significant differences in any of the studied parameters (>0.05).
Conclusion: No significant functional and morphological evidence of neuroprotective effects of Retinalamin were found in the model of photochemical damage to rabbit retinas.

The initial performance of seedlings of tree species from different functional groups, regarding the growth-defense tradeoff, might determine its long-term success during the rehabilitation of mining areas. We monitored the field performance of six native tree species of the Atlantic Forest in the Fundão dam tailing that has been under rehabilitation for 35 months. Additionally, we explored the morphophysiological traits driving the superior performance of three species.

In the background of antioxidation properties of selenium (Se) in plants, the role of nano‑selenium (Se-NPs) was justified in the modulation of Capsicum fruit ripening. In our study, exogenous application of 8 mg L Se-NPs on fruits through 7 days (D) of postharvest storage regulated decay rate, water loss and fruit coat firmness. Se-NPs recovered fruit coat damages with reduction of ion leakage, lipid oxidation, and accumulation of polyamines.

The rising concentration of microplastics (MPs) in aquatic environments poses increasing ecological risks, yet their impacts on biological communities remain largely unrevealed. This study investigated how aminopolystyrene microplastics (PS-NH) affect physiology and gene expression using the freshwater alga sp. as the test species.

The WRKY70 transcription factor (TF) was reported to play an important role in the salt stress response mechanism of in our previous research, and we also produced several overexpression (OEXs) and RNAi suppression (REXs) × lines. In order to further compare the photosynthetic and physiological characteristics of NT (non-transgenic line) and transgenic lines under salt stress, the dynamic phenotypic change, Na and K content in leaf and root tissues, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activity, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, chlorophyll content (Chl), photosynthesis parameters (net photosynthetic rate, P; stomatal conductance, Gs; intercellular CO concentration, C; transpiration rate, T), chlorophyll fluorescence parameters (electron transport rate, ETR; maximum photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (PSII), F/F; actual efficiency of PSII, Φ; photochemical quenching coefficient, q; non-photochemical quenching, NPQ; the photosynthetic light-response curves of Φ and ETR) and RNA-seq of NT, OEX and REX lines were detected and analyzed. The phenotypic observation, MDA content and Chl detection results indicate that the stress damage of REXs was less severe than that of NT and OEX lines under salt stress.

UVA radiation and visible light can lead to indirect damage to DNA, proteins, and lipids through photosensitized reactions, where a molecule undergoes a photochemical alteration by the initial absorption of radiation by another molecular entity called photosensitizer (Sens). The chemical changes undergone by biomolecules in photosensitized reactions can trigger important adverse processes such as photoallergy, phototoxicity, and skin cancer, among others. Despite the knowledge about photosensitized reactions and the fact that many endogenous compounds present in the skin can act as Sens, UVA, and visible light are widely used in several devices for domestic and general use without a thorough evaluation of their possible harmful effects; one prominent example is UV-nail polish dryers.
