The threat burden from pathogenic fungi is universal and increasing with alarming high mortality and morbidity rates from invasive fungal infections. Understanding the virulence factors of these fungi, screening effective antifungal agents and exploring appropriate treatment approaches in modeling organisms are vital research projects for controlling mycoses. has been proven to be a valuable tool in studies of most clinically relevant dimorphic fungi, helping to identify a number of virulence factors and immune-regulators and screen effective antifungal agents without cytotoxic effects. However, little has been achieved and reported with regard to pathogenic filamentous fungi (molds) in the nematode model. In this review, we have summarized the enormous breakthrough of applying a infection model for dimorphic fungi studies and the very few reports for filamentous fungi. We have also identified and discussed the challenges in mold modeling applications as well as the possible approaches to conquer these challenges from our practical knowledge in model.

is a dimorphic fungus that specifically infects , causing stem swelling and the formation of an edible fleshy stem known as jiaobai. The pathogenicity of is closely associated with the development of jiaobai and phenotypic differentiation. Msb2 acts as a key upstream sensor in the MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) signaling pathway, playing critical roles in fungal hyphal growth, osmotic regulation, maintenance of cell wall integrity, temperature adaptation, and pathogenicity.

Tsetse flies and trypanosomosis significantly impact bovine production and human health in sub-Saharan Africa, exacerbating underdevelopment, malnutrition, and poverty. Despite various control strategies, long-term success has been limited. This study evaluates the combined use of entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) and the sterile insect technique (SIT) to combat tsetse flies.

Coccidioidomycosis is the clinical disease caused by the dimorphic pathogenic fungi Coccidioides immitis and C posadasii. The number of clinically recognized coccidioidomycosis cases continues to increase yearly including in regions outside the traditional regions of endemicity. Following inhalation of Coccidioides spores, the course may range from asymptomatic exposure with resultant immunity, to a subacute pulmonary illness, to life-threatening disseminated infection.

Candida albicans is an opportunistic fungal pathogen. It's a dimorphic fungus with hyphal form that can penetrate and proliferate the oral mucosa. Occlusal guard materials come into direct contact with the oral mucosa and saliva when worn for extended periods, the occlusal guard acts as a reservoir for C.

is a dimorphic fungus that causes pulmonary, disseminated, or, rarely, primary cutaneous disease. Primary cutaneous histoplasmosis presents with non-specific skin lesions, which can lead to poor patient outcomes due to diagnostic challenges and delays in diagnosis. A 62-year-old male on immunosuppressive medications for lupus nephritis presented to the emergency department with 24 hours of altered mental status.
