Objective: To investigate structural and functional features of cutaneous microvasculature in men of working age with newly diagnosed arterial hypertension (AH).

Materials And Methods: The study included 161 apparently healthy men from 30 to 60 years, who underwent a comprehensive examination of cardiovascular system "from the heart to the capillaries". Control group (CG) included 60 normotensive men. AH group included 101 men with elevated BP.

Results: There is no rarefaction of the capillary bed and latent fluid retention in the interstitial space in the skin in men with AH. No data were obtained for increased endothelial, neurogenic and myogenic tone of resistive cutaneous precapillary arterioles in AH group, but a decrease in the perfusion efficiency of the endothelial and myogenic mechanisms of tissue perfusion modulation was noted.

Conclusion: Obtained results allow making the assumption that metabolic disorders at the level of capillaries that are of a systemic nature prevail in men with the onset of AH.

Ionizing radiation on the skin has the potential to cause various sequelae affecting quality of life and even leading to death due to multi-system failure. The development of radiation dermatitis is attributed to oxidative damage to the skin's basal layer and alterations in immune response, leading to inflammation. Past studies have shown that [18F]F-2-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography ([18F]F-FDG PET/CT) can be used effectively for the detection of inflammatory activity, especially in conditions like hidradenitis suppurativa, psoriasis, and early atherosclerosis.

From the Department of Anatomy, School of Medicine, Marmara University, Basibuyuk Yolu, Maltepe, Istanbul, Turkey (Dr. Ismailoglu, Dr. Sehirli, and Dr. Ayingen); the Department of Anatomy, School of Medicine, Acibadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University, Atasehir, Istanbul, Turkey (Dr. Bayramoglu and Dr. Savasan); and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Acibadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University, Atasehir, Istanbul, Turkey (Dr. Kocaoglu).

Purpose: The surgical approach for midfoot injuries classically requires dual dorsal incision and identification of the neurovascular structures that are susceptible to injury during the surgery. The aim of this study was to map the topographic anatomy of the dorsum of the foot along with tarsal joints for the dorsal approach of midfoot surgery that would facilitate the surgery and minimize the risk of neurovascular injuries for surgeons who specially focus on foot and ankle injuries.

Methods: The dorsum of the foot was evaluated in 12 feet injected with latex containing a red colorant to visualize the arterial vessels.

Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a global health concern with significant public health and individual impact. Currently available diagnostic methods cannot visualize microvenous pathologies that have shown to result in severe forms of CVI and also affect the skin. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) may close the CVI diagnostic gap by providing a fast, label-free, and non-invasive solution to visualize cutaneous microvasculature.

Purpose: The main objective of this study was to conduct a radioanatomical study of the osteo-myo-cutaneous scapulo-dorsal pedicled flap.

Methods: A radiological study was performed to study the anatomical variations of the dorsal scapular pedicle (origin, course of the deep branch of the dorsal scapular artery (DSA) in relation to the medial border of the scapula, perforators from the superficial branch of the DSA). Perforators from the superficial branch of the DSA were also identified on anatomical subjects, and their cutaneous vascular territory was determined.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the superficial palmar branch of the radial artery (SUPBRA) to improve techniques for reconstructing palmar skin, focusing on its anatomy and harvesting methods.
  • Researchers dissected 19 male hand specimens to gather detailed anatomical data, including dimensions and positions of key structures related to SUPBRA, analyzing how best to utilize this flap in reconstruction efforts.
  • Results indicated that the SUPBRA has adequate dimensions for viability in surgical applications, with specific measurements and the identification of critical vascular contributions that ensure successful use in cases of hand injury.
