Because optimal nutrition is vital during pregnancy, there are specific U.S. dietary guidelines and recommendations for pregnant individuals. However, Vietnamese Americans often have insufficient access to dietary recommendations for pregnancy that pertain specifically to their culture and cuisine. Healthful components of the traditional Vietnamese diet include vegetables, herbs, fruits, fish, and some unsaturated fats. Adjustments to the traditional and acculturated Vietnamese diet, such as reduced sodium intake from fermented foods and sauces, less sugar, more diverse carbohydrate consumption, more fiber, and less fat intake, would improve overall health and potentially reduce the common pregnancy complications pregnant Vietnamese women face, including gestational diabetes and certain micronutrient deficiencies. Understanding the traditional Vietnamese diet can help nurses provide culturally competent care to Vietnamese Americans.
We report a case in which a giant hepatic cyst located at the hepatic hilum and compressing the inferior vena cava was safely treated laparoscopically with careful attention to hemodynamics in a difficult fenestrated resection in a patient with severe kyphosis. The anatomic location of the cyst was evaluated preoperatively via 3D reconstruction of computed tomography images to identify a site where safe fenestrated resection could be performed. This was challenging because the surgical field was narrow due to the presence of severe kyphosis, and there was a risk of damage to surrounding organs during fenestrated resection.
Low-frequency non-syndromic hearing loss (LFNSHL) is a rare auditory disorder affecting frequencies ≤ 2000 Hz. To elucidate its genetic basis, we conducted whole-exome sequencing on nine Chinese families (31 affected individuals) with LFNSHL. Four heterozygous pathogenic variants, including two novel variants, were identified in common LFNSHL-related genes (WFS1, DIAPH1) and less common genes (TNC, EYA4), achieving a 44% genetic diagnosis rate.
The reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction provides a convenient approach to convert CO2 to CO, which facilitates to achieve the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. Herein, the Cu/CeO2 catalyst prepared by a co-precipitation method using a mixture of Na2CO3 and NaOH at pH of 10 (sample Cu/CeO2-10) achieved an intrinsic reaction rate of 428.4 mmol•gcat-1•h-1 with 100% CO selectivity at 400 °C and CO2/H2 ratio of 1:4, which is much higher than Cu/CeO2 prepared by impregnation and other methods.
Mutations in the recombination-activating gene 1, a pivotal component essential for V(D)J recombination and the formation of T- and B-cell receptors, can result in autoimmune hemolytic anemia, a rare hematological condition characterized by the autoantibody-mediated destruction of red blood cells. Herein, we report the case of a 1-year-and-4-month-old girl who presented with progressively aggravated anemia, fever, and cough. Autoimmune hemolytic anemia was confirmed by bone marrow aspiration and Coombs test.
Background: Psoriatic arthritis (PSA) is an inflammatory joint disease associated with psoriasis (PSO) that can be easily missed. Existing PSA screening tools ignore objective serologic indicators. The aim of this study was to develop a disease screening model and the Psoriatic Arthritis Inflammation Index (PSAII) based on serologic data to enhance the efficiency of PSA screening.
