Cadmium (Cd) exposure can cause multiple organ damage in humans and animals by causing oxidative stress. Organic selenium can antagonize the toxic damage of heavy metals by exerting antioxidant effects. Oxidative stress can activate NLRP3/Caspase1-dependent pyroptosis, but it is not clear whether yeast selenium (Se Y) can antagonize Cd-induced pyroptosis in the chicken liver. In this experiment, we studied the effects of CdCl single, Se Y single, and combined exposure on the pyroptosis of chicken liver. The results showed that Cd exposure induced oxidative stress in the chicken liver, and the expression of Sepx1, SelU, SelT, GPx1, GPx4, Dio1, Dio2, Dio3, TrxR1, TrxR2, TrxR3, SelH, SelI, SelO, SelK, SelPb, Selpp, and Sel15 decreased. In addition, NLRP3 inflammasome complex (NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3), apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing (ASC), and pro-Caspase1), Cysteinyl aspartate specific proteinase (Caspase1), Interleukin-β (IL-1β), and Interleukin-18 (IL-18) were upregulated. The combined treatment of Se Y and Cd found that the antioxidant level and the expression level of selenoprotein recovered to the Se group, and the liver pyroptosis decreased. Principal component analysis and correlation analysis screened out that selenoprotein O (SelO) is negatively correlated with pyroptosis-related genes. In short, our data shows that Se Y exerts an antioxidant effect by increasing the expression of selenoproteins and antagonizing the pyroptosis of chicken liver induced by Cd. This study provides new ideas for the field of heavy metal toxicology research. And the selected SelO has an important reference significance for follow-up research.

An online reactive internal extraction electrospray ionization (iEESI) method was developed for the rapid determination of organic and inorganic speciation information for selenium in poultry tissue samples without complex sample pretreatment. The addition of citric acid as a reducing agent to the internal extraction solvent of methanol/acetic acid (99:1, V/V) for iEESI resulted in the reduction of selenate in the sample to selenite, accompanied by the production of malic acid as an oxidation product. The quantitative analysis of selenate was conducted by using malic acid.

Fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome (FLHS) in laying hens is a nutritional and metabolic disease involving liver enlargement, hepatic steatosis, and hepatic hemorrhage as the primary symptoms. The syndrome is prone to occur during the peak laying period of laying hens, which has resulted in significant economic losses in the laying hen breeding industry; however, the specific pathogenesis of FLHS remains unclear. Our group and previous studies have shown that bile acid levels are significantly decreased during the development of fatty liver and that targeted activation of bile acid-related signaling pathways is beneficial for preventing and treating fatty liver.

This study investigated the effects of residue (PAR) on the immune function, antioxidant capacity, and transcriptome of Sanhuang chickens. Six hundred 30-day-old Sanhuang chickens were divided into six groups with diets of varying PAR replacement of soybean meal from 0 to 100% in increments of 20%. Samples were taken on day 100.

Bacterial infections remain an important cause of morbidity in poultry production. The molecular characteristics and dynamic changes in immune cell populations after bacterial infection have yet to be fully understood. Beijing-You chicken and Cobb broiler, two broiler breeds with different disease resistance, were infected with Salmonella typhimurium, and inflammation models were constructed.
