Objectives: Accurate kidney and tumor segmentation of computed tomography (CT) scans is vital for diagnosis and treatment, but manual methods are time-consuming and inconsistent, highlighting the value of AI automation. This study develops a fully automated AI model using vision transformers (ViTs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to detect and segment kidneys and kidney tumors in Contrast-Enhanced (CECT) scans, with a focus on improving sensitivity for small, indistinct tumors.

Methods: The segmentation framework employs a ViT-based model for the kidney organ, followed by a 3D UNet model with enhanced connections and attention mechanisms for tumor detection and segmentation.

Clinical Outcomes and Complication Rates of Endodontically Treated Teeth with Fixed Dental Prostheses: A Retrospective Study.

Dent J (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Prosthetic Dental Sciences, College of Dentistry, Qassim University, Buraydah 51452, Saudi Arabia.

: Endodontically treated teeth (ETT) often have significant structural damage and require multiple reinforcing methods during the reconstruction process. The aim of this study was to evaluate the complication rates of ETT with and without a post. : The study investigated various clinical factors, including technical complications as well as biological complications.

In dental diagnosis, evaluating the severity of periodontal disease by analyzing the radiographic defect angle of the intrabony defect is essential for effective treatment planning. However, dentists often rely on clinical examinations and manual analysis, which can be time-consuming and labor-intensive. Due to the high recurrence rate of periodontal disease after treatment, accurately evaluating the radiographic defect angle of the intrabony defect is vital for implementing targeted interventions, which can improve treatment outcomes and reduce recurrence.

Growth-friendly spinal surgery: Review of the effect on truncal growth.

N Am Spine Soc J

December 2024

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, Saint Louis, MO 63110, United States.

Background: Pediatric spinal deformity surgery affects ultimate spinal height in the growing child. This effect on ultimate spinal height has also been shown to affect pulmonary development and ultimately pulmonary function. There has been an increasing trend toward growth-friendly spinal surgery in early onset scoliosis to minimize the negative consequences of early spinal fusion surgery.

Background: There has been an increasing interest in elbow hemiarthroplasty to circumvent the problems with total elbow arthroplasty for comminuted distal humerus fractures in the elderly. The primary aim of the study is to assess the mid-term clinical and radiological outcomes of patients undergoing TEA and hemiarthroplasty for distal humerus fractures.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of data for patients undergoing hemiarthroplasty for distal humerus fractures (OTA- C3 Comminuted total articular fractures) was done.
