Rationale: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with the fatal course of muscle weakness. The published experience of anesthesia management in the cesarean section with ALS parturient is scant.

Patient Concerns: A 34-year-old woman was admitted to our center complaining of obvious dysphagia together with atrophy and weakness of quadriceps at 24 weeks of her pregnancy. Cesarean was planned at 36 weeks' gestation due to the rapid deterioration of the mother.

Diagnoses: The results of neurological examination, electromyography and spinal magnetic resonance imaging suggested ALS according to the EI Escorial World Federation of Neurology criteria.

Interventions: Ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane block with 0.6 minimum alveolar concentration sevoflurane was used in this ALS parturient during her cesarean section procedure.

Outcomes: This anesthesia strategy successfully met the demands of the surgery, helped avoid prolonged ventilation and prevent maternal respiratory complications.

Lessons: Transversus abdominis plane block with subanesthetic concentrations of sevoflurane can provide effective and safe anesthesia in the cesarean section for a patient with ALS.

Objective: To study the effect of transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block under direct vision with acupoint injection on the rapid recovery of patients after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Methods: Ninety-three patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Hangzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2023 to December 2023 were selected and divided into control, TAP block under direct vision (TAP-DV), and TAP-DV with acupoint injection (TAP-DVA) groups using a random number table method. Postoperative VAS, Ramsay score, IL-6, CRP, and postoperative rehabilitation indices were compared among the three groups.

Purpose: Transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is a promising technique for postoperative pain control. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the TAP block in managing postoperative pain after laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal (TEP) inguinal hernia repair.

Methods: In this retrospective study, medical records of patients who had received ultrasonography-guided TAP blocks after surgery from January 2019 to August 2023 were reviewed and compared with those of patients who had not received.

Background: Managing postoperative pain and stress response was critical in laparoscopic myomectomy, a procedure for uterine fibroids. Ropivacaine transversus abdominis plane block (RTAPB) may offer enhanced analgesic efficacy and reduced stress responses compared to traditional analgesia.

Methods: This retrospective analysis examined 217 patients undergoing laparoscopic myomectomy at Hankou Hospital of Wuhan from June 2020 to September 2023.

Background: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common and debilitating condition among people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and is more prevalent among women. Over the past decade, numerous studies have investigated the effects of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) as a treatment for UI in people with MS. MS negatively impacts pulmonary function even in the early stages of the disease and people with MS may experience respiratory muscle weakness.

División Paleontología Vertebrados, Museo de La Plata, Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Emperor Penguin Aptenodytes forsteri is the largest living species of penguin, found exclusively in Antarctica, and is unique in breeding during the winter. Consequently, fewer anatomical studies have been conducted on this species over time compared to others. This study aims to provide an updated and comprehensive description of the hindlimb musculature of Aptenodytes forsteri.
