A distinction between infections of left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) and cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) is warranted as they differ markedly in incidence, microbiologic profiles, clinical presentations, and extraction feasibility. These differences necessitate tailored suppressive antibiotic therapy (SAT) strategies. This commentary highlights the need for device-specific SAT approaches.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe relation between testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and anterior cruciate ligament injury risk has garnered attention in recent orthopaedic research. With TRT's popularity on the rise, understanding its potential musculoskeletal risks is important for orthopaedic and sports medicine providers. Whereas some studies suggest an association, confounding variables such as activity level, number of hours of sports participation, dosing variations, physiological versus supraphysiological levels of testosterone, and individual patient characteristics may influence outcomes.

Quadriceps weakness after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is a well-known phenomenon, with more persistent quadriceps weakness observed after ACLR with a bone-patellar tendon-bone or quadriceps tendon autograft than with a hamstring tendon autograft. Longstanding quadriceps weakness after ACLR has been associated with suboptimal postoperative outcomes and the progression of radiographic knee osteoarthritis, making the recovery of quadriceps size and strength a key component of ACLR rehabilitation. However, few articles have been written for the specific purpose of optimizing quadriceps size and strength after ACLR.

Introduction: Preventive medicine is a subject of study due to the increasing evidence that it can cause more harm than good, and the population's interest in routine appointments is widely recognized. The main objective of this study was to understand users' expectations regarding routine appointments in primary health care and compare them to doctors' perceptions regarding these expectations.
Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional observational study in 2023 through the application of two questionnaires: one for adult patients and another for family physicians.
