The inhibitory activity of electrolyzed reduced water (ERW) against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which is the etiological agent responsible for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), was tested in vitro on Vero E6 cells using a plaque assay. Infectious virus titers of cells treated with ERW 100%, 50% and 33.3% solutions and phosphate buffered saline (PBS, negative control) and exposed to the virus suspension for 60 seconds were 2.25, 2.65, 3.21 and 7.38, respectively. ERW has a high pH and low surface tension. It is considered that the alkaline property of ERW breaks down phospholipids and proteins of envelopes. The role of pH and reducibility on the virucidal effect of ERW should be further evaluated. This study provides a foundation for utilizing ERW as an effective antiviral aqueous solution in a variety of applications.
Various electrochemical tests were carried out to elucidate the electrolytic oxidation mechanism of oxalic acid on a boron-doped diamond electrode in a nitric acid environment. These included cyclic voltammetry, AC impedance, constant current electrolysis, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. The impact of electrode potential, current density, nitric acid concentration, and electrode plate spacing on the oxidation of oxalic acid was investigated.
The gas-liquid-solid interface plays a crucial role in various electrochemical energy conversion devices, including fuel cells and electrolyzers. Understanding the effect of gas transfer on the electrochemistry at this three-phase interface is a grand challenge. Scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM) is an emerging technique for mapping the heterogeneity in electrochemical activity; it also inherently features a three-phase boundary at the nanodroplet cell.

One promising strategy to address these challenges is upcycling, which involves recycling transition metal-based waste from various industries. In this study, a heterostructure electrocatalyst for anion exchange membrane water electrolysis is developed by upcycling iron-based waste from the automotive industry.

Postharvest guava fruit are at high risk of decay and spoilage, which extremely restrains the further advancement of guava industry in China. Currently, slightly acidic electrolyzed water (SAEW) has been shown to be potent in maintaining the storability of fruits and vegetables. Accordingly, this work was designed to figure out the effectiveness of SAEW on storability maintenance in postharvest guavas via regulating the phenylpropane metabolism.
