We report the synthesis and characterisation of a series of siloxide-functionalised polyoxovanadate-alkoxide (POV-alkoxide) clusters, [VO(OSiMe)(OMe)] ( = 1-, 2-), that serve as molecular models for proton and hydrogen-atom uptake in vanadium dioxide, respectively. Installation of a siloxide moiety on the surface of the Lindqvist core was accomplished addition of trimethylsilyl trifluoromethylsulfonate to the fully-oxygenated cluster [VO(OMe)]. Characterisation of [VO(OSiMe)(OMe)] by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveals that the incorporation of the siloxide group does not result in charge separation within the hexavanadate assembly, an observation that contrasts directly with the behavior of clusters bearing substitutional dopants. The reduced assembly, [VO(OSiMe)(OMe)], provides an isoelectronic model for H-doped VO, with a vanadium(iii) ion embedded within the cluster core. Notably, structural analysis of [VO(OSiMe)(OMe)] reveals bond perturbations at the siloxide-functionalised vanadium centre that resemble those invoked upon H-atom uptake in VO through calculations. Our results offer atomically precise insight into the local structural and electronic consequences of the installation of hydrogen-atom-like dopants in VO, and challenge current perspectives of the operative mechanism of electron-proton co-doping in these materials.

Polyoxometalates (POMs) are composed of nanometric metal-oxide anions and have rich solution chemistry. In this class, Keggin POMs have been identified as the most influential inorganic additives for aqueous nonionic soft matter systems. POMs being at the borderline of classical ions and charged colloids possess fascinating solution properties; the present work aims to delve deeper into the interactions between nanoions and nonionic soft matters from a spectroscopic point of view.

Bipolar Solid-Solution Hosts for Efficient Crystalline Organic Light-Emitting Diodes.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

State Key Laboratory of Polymer Physics and Chemistry, Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Changchun 130022, P. R. China.

Crystalline organic semiconductors, recognized for their highly ordered structures and high carrier mobility, have emerged as a focal point in the field of high-performance optoelectronic devices. Nevertheless, the intrinsic unipolar properties, characterized by imbalanced hole and electron transport capabilities, have continuously represented a significant challenge in the advancement of high-performance crystalline thin-film organic light-emitting diodes (C-OLEDs). Here, a bipolar solid-solution thin film with a maintained crystal structure has been fabricated using 2-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl)-1(3,5-difluorophenyl)-1H-phenanthro [9,10-d]imidazole (2FPPICz) and 4-(1-(3,5-difluorophenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)-N,N-diphenylaniline (2Fn) via a weak epitaxial growth (WEG) process, exhibiting nearly equivalent hole and electron mobilities (10-10 cm V s).

Colloidal crystals of micrometer-sized colloids create prismatic structural colors through the grating diffraction of visible light. Here, we develop design rules to engineer such structural color by specifically accounting for the effect of crystal defects. The local quality and grain size of the colloidal structure are varied by performing self-assembly in the presence of a direct current (DC) electric field.

The PSO-IFAH optimization algorithm for transient electromagnetic inversion.

PLoS One

January 2025

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The University of Tulsa, Tulsa, OK, United States of America.

As a non-contact method, the transient electromagnetic (TEM) method has the characteristics of high efficiency, small impact of device, no limitation of site range, and high resolution, and is a hot topic in current research. However, the research on the refined data processing method of TEM is lag, which seriously restricts the application in superficial engineering investigation and is a key problem that needs to be solved urgently. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and firefly algorithm (FA) were successful swarm intelligence algorithms inspired by nature.

Ecosystems such as wetlands have karst groundwater as their primary source of preserving their services and functions. Karst systems are complex hydrogeological systems that are difficult to study because of their complicated functioning mechanism, which requires an interdisciplinary effort based on hydrodynamic assessment and characterization of the hydrogeology of the system. The study area is the Ramsar wetland Ciénaga de Tamasopo (Mexico), which is dependent on the discharge of karst groundwater that is affected by water extraction of extensive sugarcane agriculture and is also the main water source for the rural towns.
