This work is a continuance to our previous findings on silica nanoparticles (NPs) modified with diamine polymer, carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin (CM-β-CD) and folic acid (FA), respectively. When four different polymer lengths (D230, D400, D2000 and D4000) were analyzed, the release rate of anticancer agents was inversely related to the polymer length while the cell toxicity was directly related to the length. We investigate here the effect of polymer length on the extent of cellular interaction with HeLa cells. The mean particle size, the polydispersity (PD) and the zeta potential of the NPs were measured using dynamic light scattering (DLS), the quantitative analysis of the extent of NPs' interaction was studied using fluorescence microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to qualitatively visualize them. The particle size increased by increasing the polymer length, the PD values were within the acceptable ranges (0.3-0.5) and the zeta potential was in the range of (-16 to -20 mV). A direct relation was observed between the fluorescence intensity and the length. All modified NPs were capable of entering the cells, however a greater number of NPs with long polymers was observed compared to short polymers. Thus, the direct relation of polymer length to the cell toxicity is due to the release rate behavior and the enhanced interaction of NPs which possess long polymers.

While membrane proteins such as ion channels continuously turn over and require replacement, the mechanisms of specificity of efficient channel delivery to appropriate membrane subdomains remain poorly understood. GJA1-20k is a truncated Connexin43 (Cx43) isoform arising from translation initiating at an internal start codon within the same parent GJA1 mRNA and is requisite for full-length Cx43 trafficking to cell borders. GJA1-20k does not have a full transmembrane domain, and it is not known how GJA1-20k enables forward delivery of Cx43 hemichannels.

Amphiphilic copolymers of comb-like poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) (PPEGMA) with methyl methacrylate (MMA) synthesized by one-pot atom transfer radical polymerization were mixed with lithium bis (trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide salt to formulate dry solid polymer electrolytes (DSPE) for semisolid-state Li-ion battery applications. The PEO-type side chain length (EO monomer's number) in the PEGMA macromonomer units was varied, and its influence on the mechanical and electrochemical characteristics was investigated. It was found that the copolymers, due to the presence of PMMA segments, possess viscoelastic behavior and less change in mechanical properties than a PEO homopolymer with 100 kDa molecular weight in the investigated temperature range.

The proposed work aims to demonstrate the significance of the plastic zone at the tip of an axial crack in a pipeline for managing Stress IntensityFactors(SIF). The three-dimensional finite element model of pressure pipeline with axial cracks was built by utilizing the Ramberg-Osgood X80 material model of pipeline. according to Von Mises yield criterion, the size of plastic zone at crack tip was determined, and the fracture parameters were calculated based on interaction integral method, the plastic stress deformation law, determination of elastic-plastic limit load and plastic correction of SIF at crack tip of pressure pipeline with axial crack were discussed.
