Objectives: The terms 'accuracy' and 'precision' are tightly defined in color science but are often used ambiguously in dental research. This study introduces the visual instrument agreement scale (VIAS), a new method for determining visual-instrumental agreement in dental colorimetry by comparing visually perceived and measured color differences.

Materials And Methods: In-vivo tooth color measurements were taken from 16 participants using four intraoral scanners (Primescan, Medit i700, Carestream CS3700, Trios 3) and one spectrophotometer (Vita Easyshade V).

Risk management for viral clearance: A case study on adoption of platform validation approach and risk management of process changes.

Biologicals

August 2024

Downstream Process Development (DSPD), WuXi Biologics, 288 Fute Zhong Road, Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, Shanghai, 200131, China.

Viral clearance (VC) studies are routinely required prior to entering clinical trials or for commercial launch of biopharmaceuticals. With increasing prior knowledge and experience, platform validation can be used to eliminate some VC studies and such strategy has been updated into industry guidelines, such as ICH Q5A (R2). In addition, process changes can happen during life-cycle management of a product.

Background: Accurate predictions of animal occurrence in time and space are crucial for informing and implementing science-based management strategies for threatened species.

Methods: We compiled known, available satellite tracking data for pygmy blue whales in the Eastern Indian Ocean (n = 38), applied movement models to define low (foraging and reproduction) and high (migratory) move persistence underlying location estimates and matched these with environmental data. We then used machine learning models to identify the relationship between whale occurrence and environment, and predict foraging and migration habitat suitability in Australia and Southeast Asia.
