We review the organization and contents of the 20th Gatherings in Biosemiotics. As the organizers, we share our insights from organizing a community research project in the year where the Covid-19 pandemic halted international travel. We try to describe the challenges of putting together the yearly conference on Biosemiotics and the main content that was presented by the research community.

Objectives The primary objective of this article is to paint an institutional portrait of the Saint-Jean-de-Dieu Asylum over the first hundred years of its existence, from 1873 to 1973. The secondary objectives are as follows: 1) explore how prevention policies at the end of the 19th century had the effect of increasing the asylum population rather than reducing it; 2) discuss mental health policies that sought to "treat the social" outside the walls of the asylum in an effort to decrease the population; and 3) address the arrival of psychopharmacology that opened the doors of the asylum and turned it into a modern psychiatric hospital, soon renamed Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine. Method Since the past exists in silence, and finding data that will enable us to reconstruct a history of Saint-Jean-de-Dieu is a challenge.

Age and sex as key determinants of multiple sclerosis incidence in Spain: a comprehensive analysis using the global burden of disease database (1990-2019).

November 2024

Prevention and Health Promotion, Unit of Public Health, South Seville Health Management Area, Seville, Spain.

Aim: To explore trends in multiple sclerosis incidence rates in Spain between 1990 and 2019.

Methods: We use data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 to calculate age-standardised incidence rates of multiple sclerosis and identify significant changes over time using the Joinpoint regression model. We also use the Age-Period-Cohort model to understand the separate influences of age, historical period, and birth cohort on these trends.

Background: Insulin resistance during early lactation in goats has been a topic of interest for researchers, as addressing this issue can significantly improve their metabolic health.

Objectives: To investigate the potential of butaphosphan and cyanocobalamin in controlling insulin resistance, we conducted a study with the hypothesis that this combination may mitigate insulin resistance in dairy goats.

Methods: Ten adult goats were divided equally into two groups: Ctrl and B+C.
