Probiotics are increasingly recognized as capable of positively modulating several aspects of human health. There are numerous attributes that make an ideal probiotic. (Lp) exhibits an ecological and metabolic flexibility that allows it to thrive in a variety of environments. The present review will highlight the genetic and functional characteristics of Lp that make it an ideal probiotic and summarizes the current knowledge about its potential application as a prophylactic or therapeutic intervention.

Aquaculture, a vital industry supplying a significant portion of the world's seafood, faces challenges such as the deterioration of the aquaculture environment. The objective of this study was to isolate and identify microorganisms with the capacity to eliminate nitrite in water from shrimp ponds and evaluate their potential as probiotics to improve water quality. Additionally, the study also determines the ideal conditions for the probiotic to effectively reduce nitrite-N and ammonia-N.

Whether it be due to genetic variances, lack of patient adherence, or sub-optimal drug metabolism, the risk of antibiotic resistance from medications administered systemically continues to pose significant challenges to fighting infectious diseases. Ideally, infections would be treated locally for maximal efficacy while minimizing off-target effects. The electrospinning of biomaterials has recently facilitated the creation of electrospun nanofibers as an alternative delivery vehicle for local treatment.

Although immune checkpoint inhibitors specifically targeting the PD-1/PD-L1 axis have exhibited remarkable clinical success, they are not uniformly effective across all patient cohorts. Immunotoxins, a novel class of cancer therapeutics, offering a promising alternative. PD-L1, which is also present in certain normal tissues, limits its suitability as an ideal target for immunotoxins.

The microencapsulation of Lactocaseibacillus rhamnosus GG in a matrix of sodium alginate, xanthan gum, gum arabic and chitosan hydrochloride is a promising strategy for protecting this probiotic during passage through the gastrointestinal tract. This study evaluated the influence on the viability of Lactocaseibacillus rhamnosus GG encapsulated with these polymers by external ionic gelation with vibratory extrusion and the microcapsules that showed the best results of capsulation efficiency, viability, size and morphology were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal analysis (TGA) and exposure to environmental stress conditions and gastrointestinal simulation. The result revealed encapsulation efficiency values above 95 % for all formulations and survival rate higher than 6 log CFU/mL for most analyzed groups.
