The growth and quality of vines are negatively affected by soil salinity if enough salts accumulate in the root zone. As part of the current study, we estimated the remediating effects of rootstocks under salinity. For this reason, "superior seedless" vines were grafted onto three different rootstocks, such as SO, 1103 Paulson, and own-root ("superior seedless" with their own-root). The experiment was conducted in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. This study examines the effects of different rootstocks on vine growth, yield, and quality using "superior seedless" vines grown in sandy soil with salinity. Four stages of berry development were examined (flowering, fruit set, veraison, and harvest time). At harvest, yield characteristics (clusters per vine and cluster weight) were also assessed. Each parameter of the growth season was influenced separately. The K and Na ratios were also significantly increased, as were the salinity symptoms index and bunch yield per vine and quality. Rootstock 1103 Paulson improved photosynthetic pigments, K accumulation, Na uptake, and cell membrane damage in "superior seedless" vines compared to other rootstocks, according to the study results. As determined in the arid regions of northwestern Egypt, the 1103 Paulson can mitigate salinity issues when planting "superior seedless" vines on sandy soil.

Table grapes are harvested based on well-known maturity indices that must be monitored after fruit veraison. The aim of this study was to assess these indices across multiple locations and environmental conditions, encompassing different table grape cultivars such as Black Pearl, Crimson Seedless, Superior Seedless, and Red Globe. For this reason, grape sampling was conducted across six distinct locations characterized by varying altitudes above sea level (m asl) and environmental conditions over the ripening season.

Short-term gaseous treatments improve rachis quality during table grape postharvest, but little is known about the mechanisms involved. In this work, we observed that the application of a 3-day CO treatment at 0 °C improved rachis browning of Superior Seedless and Red Globe bunches, affecting the non-enzymatic antioxidant system by reducing the total phenolic content, the antioxidant activity and the expression of different genes. Lipid peroxidation levels revealed lower oxidative stress in CO-treated rachis of both cultivars linked to the activation of the enzymatic antioxidant system.

Girdling is an important horticultural practice that allows increased yields or modulated ripening but not much is known how it affects metabolic processes. Trunk girdling was performed at fruit set using a single-blade knife on two table grape cultivar SUPERIOR SEEDLESS® and SABLE SEEDLESS®. Phenolic compounds, such as phytoalexin resveratrol, can be induced in grapes in response to biotic and abiotic stresses and have been related in many healthy effects. Stilbene synthases (STSs) are the key enzyme responsible for resveratrol biosynthesis. They have been already isolated and characterized from several plant species, however, VviSTS is a multigene family and little is known about their modulation in response to the application of gaseous treatments that maintain table grapes quality during postharvest.
