Serum bilirubin level has been suggested to be associated with mortality for patients with severe sepsis. This study aimed to investigate the association of serum total bilirubin level with hospital mortality rate in adult critically ill patients. Data were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-III (MIMIC-III) database. Patients with measured serum total bilirubin levels that recorded within 24 h after admission were involved in this study. Association of serum total bilirubin level and hospital mortality rate was assessed using logistic regression analysis. Propensity score-matching (PSM) was used to minimize differences between different groups. A total of 12,035 critically ill patients were herein involved. In patients with serum total bilirubin level ≥ 2 mg/dL, the hospital mortality rate was 31.9% compared with 17.0% for patients with serum total bilirubin level < 2 mg/dL (546/1714 vs. 1750/10321, < 0.001). The results of multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that the odds ratio of mortality in patients with serum total bilirubin level ≥ 2 mg/dL was 1.654 [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.307, 2.093, < 0.001]. After propensity score matching, in patients with serum total bilirubin level ≥ 2 mg/dL, the weighted hospital mortality rate was 32.2% compared with 24.8% for patients with serum total bilirubin level < 2 mg/dL, = 0.001). Serum total bilirubin concentration was found to be independently associated with hospital mortality rate in adult critically ill patients.

Objectives: To identify if chemotherapeutic drugs in the CHOP-based protocol led to an increase in renal parameters in dogs with lymphoma during therapy and investigate whether factors such as prednisolone use or age affected this result.
Methods: Data were obtained retrospectively from private referral practice records of dogs diagnosed with lymphoma receiving a CHOP-based chemotherapy protocol between 2015 and 2019. Dogs included received a CHOP-based protocol as their first treatment, received four full cycles and were in remission at the end of the protocol.

Background: Osteoporosis (OP) frequently occurs in post-menopausal women, increasing the risk of fracture. Early screening OP could improve the prevention of fractures. This study focused on the significance of miR-208a-3p in diagnosing OP and development regulation, aiming to explore a novel biomarker and therapeutic target for OP.

Inflammatory bowel disease is a collection of intestinal disorders that cause inflammation in the digestive tract. Prolonged inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract is a major risk factor for colorectal cancer. The objective of this study was to fucus on gene expression levels of (KRT-14; associated with epithelial cell integrity) and enhancer of zeste homolog-1 (EZH-2; involved in cellular proliferation) in a IBD rat model in order to rule out impact of nutraceuticals (pumpkin seed oil; PSO) as a complementary approach to conventional treatments of IBD.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent chronic condition characterized by inflammation and oxidative stress, particularly in individuals over 40. Dietary factors, specifically dietary acid load (DAL), may influence these pathological processes. However, the relationship between DAL and inflammatory markers, oxidative stress, and clinical features in patients with KOA remains unexplored.

Research suggests that folic acid contributes to improving cognitive function. However, there is a lack of systematic research on the association of dietary intake of folate and serum, and red blood cell (RBC) folate levels with global cognitive impairment (CoI) in the elderly population. Importantly, excessive supplementation with folate among American adults at high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) may have harmful effects.
