A unified method for direct C4-H halogenation of indoles has been accomplished with the assistance of anthranilic acids as suitable transient directing groups. Exclusive site selectivity (one out of five potential reactive sites) as well as good functional group tolerance was obtained to install three kinds of halogen atoms (Cl, Br and I, respectively) by using inexpensive -halosuccinimides (NXS) as halogen sources under mild conditions. Taking advantage of the rich functional groups in the product, a diversity of nitrogen-containing heterocycles were facily constructed via one-step late-stage derivations.

Achieving axially chiral biaryl dialdehydes through asymmetric catalysis remains significantly challenging due to the lack of efficient strategies. In this report, we developed a rhodium-catalyzed enantioselective C-H amidation through chiral transient directing group strategy. With this new approach, a series of axially chiral amido dialdehydes were achieved in up to 86% yields with 99.

Enhancing Photodynamic Therapy Efficacy via Photo-Triggered Calcium Overload and Oxygen Delivery in Tumor Hypoxia Management.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as a promising treatment for cancer, primarily due to its ability to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) that directly induce tumor cell death. However, the hypoxic microenvironment commonly found within tumors poses a significant challenge by inhibiting ROS production. This study aims to investigate the effect of improving tumor hypoxia on enhancing PDT.

Direct Axillary Artery Cannulation as Standard Perfusion Strategy in Minimally Invasive Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.

Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Heart-Thorax Center, Klinikum Fulda, University Medicine Marburg, Campus Fulda, 36043 Fulda, Germany.

Objective: Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) via the right axillary artery (RAA) has become an alternative perfusion strategy, especially in complex aortic procedures. This study delineates our technique and outcome with direct axillary cannulation utilizing the Seldinger technique, which we adopted as the standard perfusion strategy in the sternum-sparing minimally invasive total coronary revascularization via left anterior thoracotomy (TCRAT) using CPB.

Methods: From November 2019 to December 2023, a total of 413 consecutive patients underwent nonemergent isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) via left anterior minithoracotomy on CPB with peripheral cannulation via the RAA and cardioplegic cardiac arrest, using this technique as a default strategy in the daily routine.

Modulation of singlet and triplet energy transfer from excited semiconductor nanocrystals to attached dye molecules remains an important criterion for the design of light-harvesting assemblies. Whereas one can consider the selection of donor and acceptor with favorable energetics, spectral overlap, and kinetics of energy transfer as a means to direct the singlet and triplet energy transfer pathways, it is not obvious how to control the singlet and triplet characteristics of the donor semiconductor nanocrystal itself. By doping CsPb(ClBr) nanocrystals with Mn, we have now succeeded in increasing the triplet characteristics of semiconductor nanocrystals.

Background: As the COVID-19 pandemic nears resolution in 2024, the mechanisms by which SARS-CoV-2 and other viral infections induce spermatogenic dysfunction remain poorly understood. This review examines the mechanisms by which viral infections, particularly COVID-19, disrupt spermatogenesis and highlights the implications for male reproductive health. While reports suggest that spermatogenic dysfunction caused by COVID-19 is mild and transient, these findings may have broader applications in understanding and treating spermatogenic dysfunction caused by future viral infections.
