Motivation: Science progresses by posing good questions, yet work in biomedical text mining has not focused on them much. We propose a novel idea for biomedical natural language processing: identifying and characterizing the stated in the biomedical literature. Formally, the task is to identify and characterize , statements where scientific knowledge is missing or incomplete. The creation of such technology could have many significant impacts, from the training of PhD students to ranking publications and prioritizing funding based on particular questions of interest. The work presented here is intended as the first step towards these goals.
Results: We present a novel ignorance taxonomy driven by the role statements of ignorance play in research, identifying specific goals for future scientific knowledge. Using this taxonomy and reliable annotation guidelines (inter-annotator agreement above 80%), we created a gold standard ignorance corpus of 60 full-text documents from the prenatal nutrition literature with over 10 000 annotations and used it to train classifiers that achieved over 0.80 F1 scores.
Availability And Implementation: Corpus and source code freely available for download at https://github.com/UCDenver-ccp/Ignorance-Question-Work. The source code is implemented in Python.

Purpose Of Review: Quickly referenceable, streamlined, algorithmic approaches for advanced pain management are lacking for patients, trainees, non-pain specialists, and interventional specialists. This manuscript aims to address this gap by proposing a comprehensive, evidence-based algorithm for managing neuropathic, nociceptive, and cancer-associated pain. Such an algorithm is crucial for pain medicine education, offering a structured approach for patient care refractory to conservative management.

Due to a lack of spatially resolved characterization studies on statistical and individual particle microstructure at multiple scales, a knowledge gap exists in understanding the mechanistic link between rapid performance failure and atomic-scale structure degradation in single-crystalline Ni-rich battery cathodes. In a recent publication in , Huang developed a multi-crystal rocking curve technique (combining X-ray and electron microscopy to capture both statistical and individual lattice distortions), which enables multiscale observations and further proves that the accumulation of the unrecoverable lattice rotation in cathodes upon repeated cycling exacerbates mechanical failure and electrochemical decay. The elucidation of failure mechanisms in single-crystalline cathodes offers valuable insights into the development of long-lasting and high-energy-density cathodes in next-generation batteries, encompassing strategies to mitigate lattice rotation and enhance lattice structure tolerance against lattice distortion within individual particles.

Purpose Of Review: Although the management of nausea and vomiting induced by cancer treatments has evolved, several questions remain unanswered.
Recent Findings: New antiemetics have been developed these last decades with therapeutic indications to be defined according to the anticancer regimen and partly as a consequence of the assessment of individual patient risk factors. Guidelines still seem to have a low level of knowledge and compliance, with a role for scientific societies in term of dissemination and education.

Background: The host immune response plays a major role in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. A bibliometric study can be crucial to understanding the different processes involved in this area; however, to our knowledge, it has not been published until now. Therefore, a bibliometric analysis was conducted to assess research hotspots and global trends in scientific articles about the immune response in periodontitis published between 1952 and 2023.

On-pitch rehabilitation is a crucial part of returning to sport after injury in elite soccer. The () initially offered a framework for practitioners to plan on-pitch rehabilitation, focusing on physical preparation and sport specificity. However, our experiences with the , combined with recent research in injury neurophysiology, point to a need for an updated model that integrates practice design and physical-cognitive interactions.
