A simple and novel methodology has been developed for the synthesis of 1,3-bis(carboxymethyl)imidazolium chloride [BCMIM][Cl] salt. The ionic salt [BCMIM][Cl] catalyzed the reaction among arylaldehydes; the substituted 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and urea/thiourea at 80 °C with 5 mol % under neat condition provided the substituted dihydropyrimidin-2(1)-one/thiones in the synthesis step with yields of up to 96%. In addition, we synthesized the commercially available drug Monastrol by employing this methodology. The new synthesis method employs the benefits of a broad substrate scope, short reaction time, and high atom economy along with low catalyst loading in neat conditions, and is devoid of chromatographic purification. The ionic salt [BCMIM][Cl] was recycled and reused up to six cycles without substantial damage of its catalytic efficiency.

Purpose: To evaluate whether the effectiveness of topical antiseptic solutions in restoring skin continuity solutions is related to their antimicrobial action or to their action in maintaining moisture, in dogs undergoing elective surgeries.
Methods: Forty dogs, 20 males and 20 females, underwent orchiectomy and oophorectomy, respectively. Thereafter, the animals were allocated into four groups (n = 5) and treated with different topical solutions: polyhexanide 0.

Arsenocholine-containing methacrylate (MTAsB) inspired by marine organisms was synthesized by the reaction of 2-bromoethyl methacrylate and trimethylarsine to investigate its polymerization behavior and the fundamental properties of the resulting polymer. Controlled radical polymerization of MTAsB proceeded in the presence of a copper catalyst and imidazolium chloride at 60 °C for 8 h to give a water-soluble polycation with a 94% yield. The smaller amount of nonfreezing water and intermediate water of poly(MTAsB) was observed compared with that of the ammonium-containing polycations.

Biosolids has several challenges, such as its high water content, huge volume, odour, and pathogen presence. Regulations require biosolids to be reused and disposed of safely. Polymer conditioning focuses on volume reduction, leaving pathogen and odour reduction unaddressed.

Herein, a new metal-free, molecular chlorine-free, environmentally friendly, atom-economical, short time, inexpensive and simple operation method with mild reaction conditions for chlorination of alkenes, cyclic alkenes, ,-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, heteroaromatics, and natural products was reported with up to 96% yields using trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) as the electrophilic chlorine source and TBACl as the nucleophilic chlorine source. It was demonstrated with bicyclic alkene benzonorbornadiene that regioselective chlorobromination and dibromination reactions can be carried out through TCCA/TBABr redox reactions, where TCCA acts as an oxidant in the presence of TBABr. The structures of the redox products were confirmed as a result of control experiments conducted with the newly presented DBI/TBACl and DBI/TBABr halogenation pairs.

Particle filtration efficiency (PFE) is a critical property of face masks, with the most common test methods using sodium chloride as a challenge aerosol. In the absence of bottom-up uncertainty budgets for PFE, interlaboratory comparisons provide an alternative route to robustly quantify the precision and bias of the method. This work presents the results of several interlaboratory comparisons of particle filtration efficiency performed across a network of laboratories.
