HIV-1 subtype/circulating recombinant form (CRF) distribution of HIV-1-positive specimens for evaluating HIV diagnostics (IVDs) was examined and compared with the HIV-1 epidemic in Japan. The nucleotide sequences of the gag-pol region of 173 plasma specimens (84, provided in 2007, and 89 in 2013-2015) were determined. HIV-1 subtype/CRF classification was performed based on the phylogenetic analyses of the sequences. The subtype/CRF distribution resulting in this study was similar to that of a previous epidemiological report. Three CRF02_AG and one unique recombinant form, including subtype G and A regions, were observed in the 2013 and 2014 specimens, except in the 2007 specimens. The reference panel consisting of these specimens was practical for the evaluation of HIV IVDs in Japan.

A wealth of research focused on African American populations has connected rs2814778-CC ("Duffy-null") to decreased neutrophil (neutropenia) and leukocyte counts (leukopenia). While it has been proposed that this variant is benign, prior studies have shown that the misinterpretation of Duffy-null associated neutropenia and leukopenia can lead to unnecessary bone marrow biopsies, inequities in cytotoxic and chemotherapeutic treatment courses, under-enrollment in clinical trials, and other disparities. To investigate the phenotypic correlates of Duffy-null status, we conducted a phenome-wide association study (PheWAS) across more than 1,400 clinical conditions in All of Us, the Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Biobank, and the Million Veteran Program.

The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the necessity for rapid and adaptable drug screening platforms against live pathogenic viruses that require high levels of biosafety containment. Conventional antiviral testing is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Here, we outline the design and validation of a semi-automated drug-screening platform for SARS-CoV-2 that utilizes multiple liquid handlers, a stable A549 cell line expressing ACE2 and TMPRSS2 receptors, and a recombinant SARS-CoV-2 strain harboring the nano-luciferase gene.

As the economy enters the "new normal" and the upgrading of consumption structure enters a critical period of acceleration, under the dual background of accelerating the upgrading of consumption structure and realizing carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, it is of great significance to explore the impacts of the upgrading of consumption structure on the carbon emissions of households and the internal mechanism, so as to clarify how to promote the carbon emission reduction of households from the consumption side. This study calculates the household carbon emissions of 10 provinces and 1 municipality in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2012 to 2021 from direct and indirect perspectives. Using panel data, a fixed effect and mediating effect model is constructed to explore the mechanism of consumption structure upgrading affecting household carbon emissions.

Objective: Managing blood glucose levels is challenging for elite athletes with type 1 diabetes (T1D) as competition can cause unpredictable fluctuations. While fear of hypoglycemia during physical activity is well documented, research on hyperglycemia-related anxiety (HRA) is limited. HRA refers to the heightened fear that hyperglycemia-related symptoms will impair functioning.
