Risk assessment and quality management in AIO based on CT-linac for nasopharyngeal carcinoma: An improved FMEA and FTA approach.

Med Phys

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangdong Key Laboratory of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Diagnosis and Therapy, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, P. R. China.

Article Synopsis
  • AIO radiotherapy integrates all conventional steps into one device, improving efficiency and reducing errors for cancer patients while facing challenges like software complexity and AI reliance.
  • A risk assessment using FMEA and FTA was conducted to evaluate the quality management measures for nasopharyngeal carcinoma treatment.
  • Results showed 86 failure modes identified, with risk priority numbers indicating varying levels of risk, emphasizing the importance of implementing quality management measures for safety.

Purpose: Primary bilateral macronodular adrenal hyperplasia (PBMAH), the most common cause of Cushing's syndrome due to bilateral nodules, is a heterogeneous disease at the clinical, hormonal and morphological levels. ARMC5 inactivating pathogenic variants are causative of PBMAH and rare variants of PDE11A have been associated with PBMAH.

Methods: Leukocyte DNA of 354 PBMAH index cases was sequenced for ARMC5 and PDE11A genes by Next generation sequencing (NGS).

Background: Prior studies have demonstrated an association between retinal vascular features and cardiovascular disease (CVD), however most studies have only evaluated a few simple parameters at a time. Our aim was to determine whether a deep-learning artificial intelligence (AI) model could be used to predict CVD outcomes from routinely obtained diabetic retinal screening photographs and to compare its performance to a traditional clinical CVD risk score.

Methods: We included 6127 individuals with type 2 diabetes without myocardial infarction or stroke prior to study entry.

Severe bilateral subcutaneous emphysema after prophylactic treatment: a case report.

J Dent Anesth Pain Med

December 2024

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental Research Institute, School of Dentistry, Seoul National University, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Subcutaneous emphysema is the accumulation of gas or air in loose subcutaneous connective tissue. The use of air-driven handpieces in dental procedures is a common iatrogenic cause of intraoral mucogingival barrier disruption by high-pressure air. This case report describes a 60-year-old woman who underwent prophylactic periodontal treatment with an air-abrasive device and subsequently developed severe bilateral subcutaneous emphysema, extending from the temporal region to the thoracic and mediastinal spaces.
