Isolated penile schwannoma: A rare case report. | LitMetric

Schwannoma is a benign nerve tumor composed of cells of the schwann nerve sheath. Only about twenty cases have been reported in the literature to our knowledge. We report an isolated case of schwannoma of the penis in a 56-year-old man who presented a nodule of the penis in the balanopreputial groove that had been progressively increasing in size for three years. Anatomopathological and immunohistochemical criteria allowed for a positive diagnosis. Treatment consisted of surgical excision followed by rigorous surveillance.

Background: Inflatable penile prostheses (IPPs) have been shown to harbor biofilms in the presence and absence of infection despite exposure to various antimicrobials. Microbes persisting on IPPs following antibiotic exposure have not been adequately studied to assess biofilm formation capacity and antibiotic resistance.

Aim: In this study, we aimed to assess these properties of microbes obtained from explanted infected and non-infected IPPS using an in vitro model.

Isolated male epispadias typically presents with preputial defects and dorsal urethral dehiscence. A less common subtype, known as concealed epispadias, is distinguished by an intact prepuce. Despite its clinical relevance, there is limited literature on this variant.

First report of a dactylogyrid, Paperna & Thurston, 1969 (Monogenoidea) infecting Nile tilapia, (Linnaeus, 1758) (Cichliformes: Cichlidae) in the United States, with a review of host and locality records in its invasive range and a phylogenetic analysis.

The parasites of Nile tilapia, (Linnaeus, 1758) are poorly documented in the United States despite the economic importance and global introduction of this African fish. Only one metazoan parasite ( Paperna, 1968; Gyrodactylidae) reportedly infects Nile tilapia in the United States. Examining Nile tilapia from a flow-through aquaculture system hydrologically linked to Sougahatchee Creek (Tallapoosa River, Auburn, Alabama), we observed a gill infection by Paperna & Thurston, 1969 (Dactylogyridae).

Background: Hypospadias is a congenital condition where the urethral opening is located on the underside of the penis instead of at the tip. The Y chromosome, particularly the Azoospermia Factor (AZF) loci, plays a crucial role in male sexual development. Microdeletions in this region have been implicated in male infertility and hypothesized to contribute to congenital malformations like hypospadias.
