Results on studies of pure tungsten oxide WO and 2, 3 and 4% Fe-doped WO grown on the sapphire substrates by reactive pulsed laser deposition technique are reported. From X-ray diffraction it results that the crystalline structures changed with the substrate temperature and the peaks diffraction having a small shift by the amount of Fe content in WO lattice was noticed. Scanning electron microscopy presented a random behavior of WO nanocrystallites size with substrate temperatures. In the presence of 2% Fe-doped WO, the nanocrystallites size varied gradually from 60 nm to 190 nm as substrate temperature increased. The transmission spectra of the pure and 2, 3 and 4% Fe-doped WO films were obtained within the 300-1200 nm spectral range. The refractive index of WO and Fe-doped WO layers were calculated by the Swanepoel method. The refractive index of pure WO shows a variation from 2.35-1.90 and for 2% Fe-doped WO from 2.30-2.00, as the substrate temperature increased. The contents of 3 and 4% Fe-doped WO presented nearly identical values of the refractive index with pure and 2% Fe-doped WO, in error limits, at 600 °C. The optical band gap changes with substrate temperature from 3.2 eV to 2.9 eV for pure WO and has a small variation with the Fe.

Spontaneous cleavage reactions normally occur in vivo on amino acid peptide backbones, leading to fragmentation products that can have different physiological roles and toxicity, particularly when the substrate of the hydrolytic processes are neuronal peptides and proteins highly related to neurodegeneration. We report a hydrolytic study performed with the HPLC-MS technique at different temperatures (4 °C and 37 °C) on peptide fragments of different neuronal proteins (amyloid-β, tau, and α-synuclein) in physiological conditions in the presence of Cu and Zn ions, two metal ions found at millimolar concentrations in amyloid plaques. The coordination of these metal ions with these peptides significantly protects their backbones toward hydrolytic degradation, preserving the entire sequences over two weeks in solution, while the free peptides in the same buffer are fully fragmented after the same or even shorter incubation period.

Ceramic detachments in cladding systems are indicative of adhesion loss between the ceramic tiles and the substrate or its adhesive mortar due to inadequate quality workmanship, the quality of the adhesive mortar or that of the ceramic material, whether acting simultaneously or not.
