Seawater and sea sand concrete (SWSSC) is an environmentally friendly alternative to ordinary Portland cement concrete for civil construction. However, the detrimental effect of high chloride content of SWSSC on the corrosion resistance of steel reinforcement is a concern. This study undertook the electrochemical corrosion behaviour and surface characterizations of a mild steel and two stainless steels (AISI type 304 and 316) in various simulated concrete environments, including the alkaline + chloride environment (i.e., SWSSC). Open circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed. Though chloride is detrimental to the corrosion resistance of mild steels, a simultaneous presence of high alkalinity in SWSSC negate the detrimental effect of chloride. In the case of stainless steels, a high level of alkalinity is found to be detrimental, whereas chloride seems to have less detrimental effect on their corrosion resistance.

In order to provide long-term anti-corrosion properties of the coatings on the substrate, a microcapsule self-healing coatings system was designed in this paper. Microcapsules were synthesized with ethyl cellulose and octadecyl amine, which were added to epoxy resin to prepare self-healing coatings. The shape of microcapsules was spherical, the average particle size of microcapsules was about 100-120 μm, and the average thickness of microcapsules was 4.

The synergistic effect of CNT and three-dimensional N-doped graphene foam (3DNG) on improving corrosion resistance of zinc-reinforced epoxy (ZRE) composite coatings was studied in this work. Although CNT itself was demonstrated to be effective to promote the anti-corrosion performance of the ZRE coating, the incorporation of additional 3DNG leads to further enhancement of its corrosion resistance under the synergistic effect of the hybrid carbon nanofillers with different dimensions. Both the content of the carbonaceous fillers and the ratio between them affected the performance of the coating.

A trend has been established concerning the research and development of various green and biodegradable plastics for multi-purpose applications, aiming to replace petroleum-based plastics. Herein, we report the synthesis of chitosan (CH) films using lemon juice; these were reinforced with NiZnFeO nanoparticles (NiZnFeO NPs) to obtain improved mechanical and barrier properties, facilitating their future application as sustainable, corrosion-resistant coatings for medical instruments. The synthesized NiZnFeO NPs had a crystallite size of ~29 nm.

The article compares the properties of coatings (cataphoretic, hot-dip zinc, and thermo-diffusion zinc) applied to steel components used in the automotive industry. The research focused on the analysis of corrosion resistance, hardness measurements, and tribological properties conducted on steel guides used in trailer and truck body structures as well as fasteners (M12 × 40 bolts). The base surfaces were cleaned chemically.

The corrosion resistance of a CrC-25(Ni20Cr) cermet coating applied to an Al7075 substrate (CrC-25(Ni20Cr)/Al7075) was investigated. The coating was produced using a cold spraying (CS) method. The main aim of the research was to determine the effect of heat treatment on the properties of cermet coatings on the Al7075 substrate.
