With an increasingly aging population, both end-stage renal disease and peripheral artery disease become more prevalent. Peripheral artery disease is increasingly treated with endovascular procedures. Endovascular stenting of the external iliac artery (EIA) is often considered a contraindication for kidney transplantation, as clamping of the artery could result in possible injuring of the stent.

Background: Nervous necrosis virus (NNV) poses a severe threat to the aquaculture industry, particularly infecting fish fry with devastating mortality rates and inflicting heavy economic losses. Traditional detection methods, such as cell culture and conventional RT-PCR, are not only time-consuming and require specialized laboratory facilities but also hard to eliminate contamination. Rapid and accurate on-site detection methods in aquaculture settings are crucial for effective control of NNV outbreaks in fish farms.

Approximately 1-2 per 100,000 young athletes die from sudden cardiac death (SCD) and extreme exercise may be associated with myocardial scar and arrhythmias. Racehorses have a high prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and SCD but the presence of myocardial scar and inflammation has not been evaluated. Cardiac tissues from the left (LAA) and right (RAA) atrial appendages, left ventricular anterior (LVAPM) and posterior (LVPPM) papillary muscles, and right side of the interventricular septum (IVS-R) were harvested from racehorses with sudden cardiac death (SCD, n = 16) or other fatal injuries (OFI, n = 17), constituting the athletic group (ATH, n = 33), and compared to sedentary horses (SED, n = 10).

: The right-sided aortic arch (RAA) is an uncommon variation of the aortic arch (AA), characterized by the aorta crossing over the right main bronchus. In the RAA, the descending aorta can be found on either the right or left side of the spine. The current study comprises a comprehensive retrospective computed tomography angiography (CTA) investigation into the prevalence of the RAA within the Greek population.

Background: The potential influence of hyperuricemia on the genesis and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains controversial. In general, the correlation between blood levels of uric acid (UA) and the rate of progression of CKD is considered to be modest, if any, and the results of relevant trials oriented to disclose the effect of urate-lowering therapies on this outcome have been disappointing. Urinary excretion rates of UA could reflect more accurately the potential consequences of urate-related kidney injury.
