We incorporated oxidized dextran (Odex) into nanoparticles composed of gallic acid-modified chitosan (GA-CS) and sodium caseinate (NaCas). The mass ratio of GA-CS to NaCas and the pH of the reaction solution were optimized to obtain nanoparticles with excellent performance and stability. The interactions among various nanomaterials were confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and fluorescence spectrometer. The optimized complex nanoparticles had a diameter of approximately 131.2 nm with a polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.14, and a zeta potential of 26.2 mV. Our results showed that Odex enhanced the stability and function of GA-CS/NaCas nanoparticles (NP). At a curcumin loading of 10%, the encapsulation efficiency of Odex-crosslinked GA-CS/NaCas (NP (Odex)) was 96.2%, whereas that for uncrosslinked nanoparticles was 66.9%. Compared to the burst release profile of free curcumin in simulated GI fluids, the sustained release profile of encapsulated curcumin was observed. Radical-scavenging assays confirmed that the nanoparticles had excellent antioxidant activity themselves due to the grafting of phenolic acid on chitosan backbone. Overall, NP (Odex) with good GI stability and antioxidant activity hold promising for the oral delivery of hydrophobic bioactives.

Herein, we developed multifunctional hydrogels formed between soybean protein (SPI)-gallic acid conjugate and oxidized dextran (ODex) via a Schiff base reaction. The effects of ODex on the morphology, structure, and functional properties of the hydrogels were elucidated. The results showed that the crosslinking modes in the hydrogels include hydrogen bonding, Schiff bases, Michael addition, and π-π stacking.

Hydrogels possessing appropriate adhesion and antibacterial properties have emerged as promising dressings for expediting wound healing, while also providing the convenience of visualizing the wound site to accurately monitor the healing process. In this study, we incorporated oxidized and degraded polydopamine nanoparticles into quaternized chitosan/oxidized dextran hydrogel QOP series, resulting in enhanced transmittance exceeding 95 % and adhesion strengths reaching up to 19.4 kPa.

High throughput intracellular delivery of biological macromolecules is crucial for cell engineering, gene expression, therapeutics, diagnostics, and clinical studies; however, most existing techniques are either contact-based or have throughput limitations. Herein, we report a light-activated, contactless, high throughput photoporation method for highly efficient and viable cell transfection of more than a million cells within a minute. We fabricated reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanoflakes that was mixed with a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) nanocomposite thin sheet with an area of 3 cm and a thickness of ∼600 μm.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel condition that significantly impairs patient quality of life and remains incurable. Effective dietary management is crucial for both prevention and treatment. This study investigates the effects and mechanisms of Eurotium cristatum-fermented black tea (FBT) in a dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced UC mouse model using transcriptome sequencing, immunofluorescence, and flow cytometry.

The hypoxia microenvironment post-myocardial infarction (MI) critically disturbs cellular metabolism and inflammation response, leading to scarce bioenergy supplying, prolonged inflammatory phase and high risk of cardiac fibrosis during cardiac restoration. Herein, an injectable hydrogel is prepared by Schiff base reaction between fructose-1,6-bisphosphate (FBP)-grafted carboxymethyl chitosan (CF) and oxidized dextran (OD), followed by loading fucoidan-coated baicalin (BA)-encapsulated zein nanoparticles (BFZ NPs), in which immunoregulatory and metabolism improving functions are integrally included. The grafted FBP serves to enhance glycolysis and provide more bioenergy for cardiomyocytes survival under hypoxia microenvironment, and elevating cellular antioxidant capacity pentose phosphate pathway.
