Trophic Structure and Isotopic Niche of Invaded Benthic Communities on Tropical Rocky Shores.

Biology (Basel)

December 2024

Departamento de Ecologia, IBRAG, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Rua Francisco Xavier 524, PHLC, Sala 220, Rio de Janeiro 20559-900, RJ, Brazil.

When a species is introduced in a new location, it is common for it to establish itself when it finds favorable conditions in the receptor community with regard to interspecific interactions with native species. The azooxanthellate corals coccinea and are invasive species introduced in the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Brazilian Southwest Atlantic. They are successful competitors for space, have multiple reproductive modes, and have high larval dispersion and recruitment, but studies on food and trophic relationships of the genus are still scarce.

HIV is a lentivirus characterized by the formation of its mature core. Visualization and structural examination of HIV requires purification of virions to high concentrations. The yield and integrity of these virions are crucial for ensuring a uniform representation of all viral particles in subsequent analyses.

Clothianidin (CL) is a neonicotinoid insecticide widely used in crop protection against insect pests. However, its effects on photosynthesis remain largely unknown. Here, by investigating the influence of CL at the concentrations of 22 and 110 μg/L on the primary processes of photosynthesis, membrane fluidity and structural changes of pea chloroplasts, we located several primary binding sites of this pesticide.

Enhancing and sustaining arsenic removal in a zerovalent iron-based magnetic flow-through water treatment system.

Water Res

October 2024

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong Kong, China. Electronic address:

In areas affected by arsenicosis, zerovalent iron (ZVI)/sand filters are extensively used by households to treat groundwater, but ZVI surface passivation and filter clogging limit their arsenic (As) removal performance. Here we present a magnetic confinement-enabled column reactor coupled with periodic ultrasonic depassivation (MCCR-PUD), which efficiently and sustainably removes As by reaction with continuously generated iron (oxyhydr)oxides from ZVI oxidative corrosion. In the MCCR, ZVI microparticles self-assemble into stable millimeter-scale wires in forest-like arrays in a parallel magnetic field (0.

Background: Ectopic pregnancy associated with appendicitis is rare, with very few cases reported in the literature. It is unclear if appendicitis is coincidentally associated with ectopic pregnancy or a possible risk factor for the development of ectopic pregnancy. Ruptured ectopic pregnancy has also been postulated as a possible risk factor leading to appendicitis because of the probable inflammatory reaction involving the adjacent appendix.
