Introduction: Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disease with low bone mineral density (BMD) and high incidence of vertebral fractures (VFs). Postmenopausal women with osteoporosis have decreased total fat and lean mass. This study aimed to investigate the associations between body composition and VF risk and explore the potential predictor of VF risk in postmenopausal women.

Methods: Enrolled 731 postmenopausal women were referred by various departments and outpatient clinics to assess vertebral status between October 2016 and November 2017. The main measures were total body lean mass, fat mass, and BMD. Patients were divided into osteopenia, osteoporosis, and normal groups based on T-scores. Logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate associations between body composition parameters and VF.

Results: VF was significantly associated with increased age, lower height, and lighter weight in all participants, and higher BMI was observed in VF participants. Participants in the osteoporosis group were older and had lower height, weight, and BMD than those in normal and osteopenia groups. Femoral and total hip T-scores as well as T-scores for lumbar spine were significantly lower in participants with VF than in non-VF participants. Percentage of bone mass was also significantly lower in VF participants compared to that of non-VF participants. Women with increased BMD and lower bone mass had reduced odds for VF occurrence. Bone mass was significantly able to identify VF occurrence.

Conclusions: Body composition analysis discerns differences in the bone status of postmenopausal women with and without VF. The cutoff value of the bone mass might be used effectively as an indicator of risk for VF occurrence.

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to screen fatty liver in individuals with metabolic disorders, and to investigate the use of some anthropometric calculations and body composition indices in demonstrating fatty liver disease.

Methods: The cross-sectional study included 224 participants with metabolic diseases. Anthropometric measurements of the participants were measured.

Background: The factors contributing to osteoarthritis progression after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and reconstruction (ACLR) are not fully understood. Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers a noninvasive way to evaluate cartilage biochemical composition using T1ρ mapping, thereby detecting early cartilage degeneration. The specific impact of preoperative quantitative MRI on long-term outcomes after ACLR remains underreported.

The intestinal microbiota undergoes diurnal compositional and functional oscillations within a day, which affect the metabolic homeostasis of the host and exacerbate the occurrence of obesity. TB has the effect of reducing body weight and lipid accumulation, but the mechanism of improving obesity caused by a high-fat diet based on the circadian rhythm of intestinal microorganisms has not been clarified. In this study, we used multi-omics and imaging approaches to investigate the mechanism of TB in alleviating obesity in mice based on the circadian rhythm of gut microbiota.

Nutritional and functional outcomes in trials of nutrient-stimulated hormone-based therapy-A systematic mapping review.

Introduction: Currently, trials are investigating the efficacy of nutrient-stimulated hormone-based therapies (NuSHs) in promoting weight loss in people living with overweight and obesity. However, the extent to which nutritional and functional outcomes are evaluated remains uncertain. Thus, we conducted a systematic mapping to assess the presence of nutritional and functional outcomes in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating NuSHs.

Background: Immunotherapy has become a prevalent strategy in the neoadjuvant treatment of advanced gastric cancer (AGC). This study investigates the predictive value of computed tomography (CT)-derived body composition parameters on the efficacy of neoadjuvant immunotherapy for AGC.

Methods: Data on 103 patients with resectable AGC who received neoadjuvant immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy at a teaching hospital between March 2020 and August 2022 were collected.
