Aims: Prolonged waits for hip and knee arthroplasty have raised questions about the equity of current approaches to waiting list prioritization for those awaiting surgery. We therefore set out to understand key stakeholder (patient and surgeon) preferences for the prioritization of patients awaiting such surgery, in order to guide future waiting list redesign.
Methods: A combined qualitative/quantitative approach was used.

February 2025
Department of Surgery, Samsung Medical Center, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine, Seoul, Korea.
Background: The Organ Transplantation Act of Korea was amended to state that kidneys from deceased donors under age 19 (previously age 11) must be initially allocated to a waitlisted patient under age 19. The aim of this study was to analyze the change in allocation pattern of kidneys from pediatric donors following implementation of the new policy.
Methods: Data from the Korean Network for Organ Sharing database included donor and recipient information of kidney transplants from pediatric donors from October 2014 to September 2020.

Department of Surgery.
Purpose Of Review: This review summarizes the different instruments for evaluating the psychosocial health of transplant candidates, the evidence demonstrating how these instruments relate to probability of transplant waitlisting and transplant outcomes, and the critical knowledge gaps that exist in the causal pathway between psychosocial health and clinical transplant trajectory.
Recent Findings: The current literature reveals that psychosocial assessments are a common reason for racial and ethnic minorities to be denied access to the transplant list. Given evidence that a lack of clinician consensus exists regarding the definition of, importance of, and reproducibility of psychosocial support evaluations, this facet of the holistic evaluation process may create a unique challenge for already vulnerable patient populations.
Gastroenterology
November 2024
Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Stanford University, Palo Alto, California. Electronic address:
Background & Aims: Currently, patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the United States are assigned a uniform score relative to the median Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) at transplant after a minimum 6-month waiting period. The authors developed a risk stratification model for patients with HCC using the available and objective variables at time of listing.
Methods: Adult liver transplant candidates with approved HCC exception in the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network database from 2015-2022 were identified.
