Cascade reactions of -carbonyl-substituted benzonitriles with ((chloromethyl)sulfonyl)benzenes as pronucleophiles led to new isoindolin-1-ones with a tetrasubstituted C-3 position or to ()-3-(sulfonyl-methylene)isoindolin-1-ones. The reactions start from readily available materials, are carried out under mild conditions, and do not require metal catalysis. Promoted only by the cheap and environmentally benign KCO as the base, up to six elemental steps can be combined in a single pot. Hence, a sequential one-pot cascade/β-elimination/alkylation furnished useful intermediates for the synthesis of aristolactam natural products. The observed selectivity and the mechanism were investigated by DFT studies.

Nanozymes with specific catalytic activity inhibit inflammation and promote wound healing efficiently and safely. In this work, multifunctional manganese-based nanozymes (MnGA) with antioxidant properties were successfully constructed via a simple coordination reaction in which manganese chloride was used as the manganese source and gallic acid (GA) was used as the ligand solution. MnGA possesses both catalase-like (CAT-like) and superoxide dismutase-like (SOD-like) activities and a reactive nitrogen species (RNS) scavenging capacity, which enables it to efficiently inhibit the inflammatory response.

An efficient phospha-aldol/Meyer-Schuster rearrangement cascade reaction between propargylic aldehydes and phosphine oxides has been developed in which various phosphoryl enones were obtained in moderate to excellent yields. A comprehensive series of mechanistic experiments, including the identification of key intermediates and the application of O isotope labeling, has confirmed that this cascade reaction proceeds through a phospha-aldol followed by Meyer-Schuster rearrangement cascade reaction.

Sugarcane smut is a widespread fungal disease, which severely impairs the quality and sugar yield of sugarcane. Early detection is crucial for mitigating its impact, which makes the development of a highly sensitive and accurate detection method essential. Herein, the Mn-doped zeolite imidazolate framework (ZIF-67), synthesized via a nano-confined-reactor approach, is designed to significantly enhance electron transport and boost the enzyme loading capacity within biofuel cells, thereby potentially enhancing their overall performance.

The current study examined the underlying mechanism and the effect of 1,3-thiazin-6-one on the growth of renal cancer. The findings showed that 1,3-thiazin-6-one treatment inhibited the growth of xenograft tumors in a dose-dependent manner in mice model of renal cancer. Furthermore, when 1,3-thiazin-6-one was administered in a dose-dependent manner to mice with renal cancer, the expression of the proteins p-PI3K and p-Akt significantly decreased.

The construction of complex molecules under metal-free conditions multiple bond-forming steps in a cascade manner is highly desirable. Herein, we have developed an HFIP-alone promoted aminomethylation and intramolecular cyclization of allenamides, providing biologically relevant tetrahydro-β-carboline derivatives embedded with an allylic amine functionality. The metal-free protocol provided the desired tetrahydro-β-carboline derivatives under mild conditions.
