TiO-based photodetectors (PDs) have been hotspots in recent years for their excellent thermal stabilities and optoelectronic performance under ultraviolet (UV) light. However, the high dark current caused by defects in TiO films has limited the detectivity () of these PDs. Here, the dark current of a TiO-based PD was effectively reduced by 3 magnitudes (from 0.1 mA to 20 nA) and was increased to 1.2 × 10 Jones by introducing PC71BM. The TiO/PC71BM heterojunction also made the PD self-powered, and by further introducing an interface layer of PEDOT:PSS and finely optimizing the electrode Ag nanowires (Ag NWs), the self-powered responsivity () was increased to 33 mA/W. Ultrafast rise/decay times (129 ns/1 ms at -1 V and 0.06 s/<1 μs at 0 V) were achieved. This work successfully applied an organic-inorganic heterojunction, an organic interface, and Ag NWs to suppress the dark current and enhance the self-powered photocurrent/ of inorganic PDs, providing a feasible strategy in high-performance UV PDs' design.

High-Performance Oxide Crystal BaTeWO X-ray Detector with High Stability, Low Detection Limit, and Ultralow Dark Current Drift.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials and Institute of Crystal Materials, Shandong University, Jinan 250100, China.

X-ray detection materials and devices have received widespread attention due to their irreplaceable role in the medical, industrial, and military fields. In this paper, BaTeWO (BTW) crystal containing lone pairs of electrons with large atomic numbers and high density is reported as a new type of oxide crystal X-ray detection material. The anisotropic X-ray detection performance of the BTW single crystal (SC) is systematically studied.

The neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCLs) are a group of recessively inherited neurodegenerative diseases characterizsed by lysosomal storage of fluorescent materials. CLN3 disease, or juvenile Batten disease, is the most common NCL that is caused by mutations in the Ceroid Lipofuscinosis, Neuronal 3 (CLN3) gene. Sleep disturbances are among the most common symptoms associated with CLN3 disease that deteriorate the patients' life quality, yet this is understudied and has not been delineated in animal models of the disease.

Lead halide perovskite heterojunctions have been considered as important building blocks for fabricating high-performance photodetectors (PDs). However, the interfacial defects induced non-radiative recombination and interfacial energy-level misalignment induced ineffective carrier transport severely limit the performance of photodetection of resulting devices. Herein, interfacial engineering with a spin-coating procedure has been studied to improve the photodetection performance of CHNHPbI/SnO heterojunction PDs, which were fabricated by sputtering a SnO thin film on ITO glass followed by spin-coating a CHNHPbI thin film.

How to raise donations effectively, especially in the E-era, has puzzled fundraisers and scientists across various disciplines. Our research focuses on donation-based crowdfunding projects and investigates how the emotional valence expressed verbally (in textual descriptions) and visually (in facial images) in project descriptions affects project performance. Study 1 uses field data (N = 3817), grabs project information and descriptions from a top donation-based crowdfunding platform, computes visual and verbal emotional valence using a deep-learning-based affective computing method and analyses how multimodal emotional valence influences donation outcomes.

In recent years, the recreational use of xylazine has increased dramatically in the USA. Although xylazine has been used as an anesthetic in veterinary medicine for decades, little is known about its behavioral effects. We took advantage of the planarian's innate negative phototaxis, the reliable movement from the light side to the dark side of a Petri dish, to explore the organism's suitability as an animal model for investigating the preclinical pharmacology of xylazine.
