Introduction: Women with early bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) have greater Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk than women with spontaneous menopause (SM), but the pathway toward this risk is understudied. Considering associative memory deficits may reflect early signs of AD, we studied how BSO affected brain activity underlying associative memory.

Methods: Early midlife women with BSO (with and without 17β-estradiol therapy [ET]) and age-matched controls (AMCs) with intact ovaries completed a face-name associative memory task during functional magnetic resonance imaging.

Background: Individual neurobiological heterogeneity among patients with tobacco use disorder (TUD) hampers the identification of neuroimaging phenotypes.

Methods: The current study recruited 122 TUD individuals and 57 healthy controls, and obtained their 3D-T1 images. Heterogeneity through discriminative analysis (HYDRA) was applied to uncover the potential subtype of TUD where regional gray matter volume (GMV) was treated as the feature.

Multimodal MRI Analysis of Microstructural and Functional Connectivity Brain Changes Following Systematic Audio-Visual Training in a Virtual Environment.

Neuroimage

December 2024

Institute of Population Health, University of Liverpool, United Kingdom; Hanse Wissenschaftskolleg, Delmenhorst, Germany. Electronic address:

Recent work has shown rapid microstructural brain changes in response to learning new tasks. These cognitive tasks tend to draw on multiple brain regions connected by white matter (WM) tracts. Therefore, behavioural performance change is likely to be the result of microstructural, functional activation, and connectivity changes in extended neural networks.

Concomitant chronic lateral ankle instability affects postoperative functional outcomes in patients with osteochondral lesions of the talus, but does not affect cartilage repair after restoration of ankle stability.

Arthroscopy

December 2024

Sports Medicine Center, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610041, China; Department of Orthopedics and Orthopedic Research Institute, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610041, China. Electronic address:

Purpose: To investigate the effect of concomitant chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) on postoperative clinical outcomes in patients with osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLTs).

Methods: Patients who underwent surgery for OLTs between January 2018 and May 2022 were retrospectively evaluated. OLT procedures involved debridement, microfracture, or bone grafting, while concomitant CLAI underwent lateral ligament repair or reconstruction.

Evaluation of myelin content in the spinal cord of patients with multiple sclerosis: A positron emission tomography study.

Mult Scler Relat Disord

December 2024

Laboratory of Nuclear Medicine (LIM43), Department of Radiology and Oncology, Faculdade de Medicina-FMUSP, Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo 05403-911, SP, Brazil. Electronic address:

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is divided into Relapsing-Remitting (RRMS) and Progressive (PMS) phenotypes, both associated with spinal cord (SC) damage. MS-related disability and SC atrophy are not yet fully understood and can differ across phenotypes. A combined approach using Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) could provide a broader understanding of myelin changes in the cervical SC (CSC) in different MS phenotypes and the associations with disability.
