Obesity is an increasing health concern related to many metabolic disorders, including metabolic syndrome, diabetes type 2 and cardiovascular diseases. Many studies suggest that herbal products can be useful dietary supplements for weight management due to the presence of numerous biologically active compounds, including antioxidant polyphenols that can counteract obesity-related oxidative stress. In this review we focus on , commonly known as chamomile, and one of the most popular medicinal plants in the world. Thanks to a high content of phenolic compounds and essential oils, preparations from chamomile flowers demonstrate a number of pharmacological effects, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and sedative actions as well as improving gastrointestinal function. Several recent studies have shown certain positive effects of chamomile preparations in the prevention of obesity and complications of diabetes. These effects were associated with modulation of signaling pathways involving the AMP-activated protein kinase, NF-κB, Nrf2 and PPARγ transcription factors. However, the potential of chamomile in the management of obesity seems to be underestimated. This review summarizes current data on the use of chamomile and its individual components (apigenin, luteolin, essential oils) to treat obesity and related metabolic disorders in cell and animal models and in human studies. Special attention is paid to molecular mechanisms that can be involved in the anti-obesity effects of chamomile preparations. Limitation of chamomile usage is also analyzed.

This study presents the synergistic application of ultrasound- and microwave-assisted extraction (UAE-MAE) as a novel and efficient method for recovering bioactive compounds from the medicinal plants oregano, rosemary, , and chamomile. Extraction parameters, including microwave (MW) power, ultrasound (US) power, and extraction time, were optimized using the response surface methodology (RSM), with ethanol as the solvent. Extracts were evaluated for total phenolic content (TPC) via the Folin-Ciocalteu method and antioxidant activity (IC50) using the DPPH assay.

This study investigates the underutilized potential of agri-crops from the family by employing sustainable and green technologies (supercritical fluid, ultrasound, and Soxhlet extractions) to enhance the recovery of bioactive compounds. A total of 21 extracts from native and waste seeds of dandelion, milk thistle, and chamomile were systematically compared utilizing a combination of solvents (supercritical CO and absolute or aqueous ethanol). Supercritical CO extraction yielded up to 281 mg/g of oils from native seeds, while conventional techniques with ethanol recovered an additional 142 mg/g of extracts from waste seeds.

Background And Purpose: Aromatherapy, a non-pharmacological intervention involving essential oils, has been suggested as a complementary therapy for perioperative discomfort. This study seeks to systematically examine the efficacy of aromatherapy in alleviating pain and other discomforts in mothers undergoing cesarean sections.
Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Embase was conducted from inception to September 2024.

Phytochemicals as dietary components are being extensively explored in order to prevent and treat a wide range of diseases. Apigenin is among the most studied flavonoids found in significant amount in fruits (oranges), vegetables (celery, parsley, onions), plant-based beverages (beer, tea, wine) and herbs (thyme, chamomile, basil, oregano) that has recently gained interest due to its promising pharmacological effects. However, the poor solubility and extended first pass metabolism of apigenin limits its clinical use.
